February 19, 20233 yr It seems that most of the time the rain appears randomly. I've very rarely seen rain come and go in the same location, maybe in the summer when we get sporadic showers. But in XP12 it seems to be the norm. For example, I was taxiing at LZIB (where it is winter now), and the rain just came and went away. Same when flying through clouds, almost every time there's rain hitting the plane when flying through one. This seems exagerrated. Setup: RX6800 | 5800X3D + B450 | 32GB 3200MHz | X-Plane 12
February 20, 20233 yr I haven't checked carefully yet, but do you mean you're getting rain where you shouldn't, and not getting rain where you should ? When you got that short rain during your taxi, was there a visible rain curtain approaching ? When going through a cloud, well I suppose it depends what kind of cloud it is. But if it's raining in that area, then you should expect rain in the cloud as well.

In MSFS the presence of rain is similar to XP as far as I have seen, it depends if there are supposed to be precipitations in the area where you stand. The nice thing is the visible rain curtains (not sure of the exact name), when flying under the clouds, you can clearly see where it's raining, and when you reach that zone, the rain indeed start hitting your windshield. It's one of the nicest aspects of their weather rendition. Edited February 20, 20233 yr by Daube
February 20, 20233 yr I've noticed rain where it shouldn't be as well, like flying under a rather thin scattered stratus layer, or random rain on the ground. Not a showstopper, but does need some work. As mentioned above, MSFS has rain shafts/curtains in addition to the droplets not being exaggerated to the same degree so it is a fair bit better. LR did indicate that they will be implementing the curtains so i look forward to seeing how that turns out. 5800X3D. 32 GB RAM. 1TB SATA SSD. 3TB HDD. RX 9070XT.

February 20, 20233 yr Janov in the past admitted they got a bit too excited with depicting rain and puddles and that it might get toned down a bit in future releases. Rain bands will be coming at some point in the future, promised by Austin himself.

February 22, 20233 yr Author When I started the taxi, it was raining, then in about 2 minutes it stopped, then after a minute or so it started raining again. I've rarely seen this in real life, and only in the summer. Usually in the winter there's an overcast and it's raining/snowing. There were scattered clouds. Also the distance traveled was small since I wasn't flying. Setup: RX6800 | 5800X3D + B450 | 32GB 3200MHz | X-Plane 12

Yeah, I got a very vivid memory from my childhood when I was returning with my parents from a visit at my cousin out in the countryside. We drove through more or less torrential (well, as torrential as it can be in the north of Sweden) rain and when we got closer to the coast I could suddenly clearly see the border between where it had rained and where it hadn't. My ten year old mind almost blue-screened when I saw the ridiculously sharp border between the two. I will never forget that.
