Working Title fixing 787 and 747 in AAU2!

Featured Replies

Wow, this is big news and I think it deserves its own thread.  Working Title is fixing the 787 for MSFS in AAU2. The 747 is also being fixed. But for the 787, I think this has huge ramifications, because it will probably affect Quality Wings:

For more on the 787 and 747, you can watch the Twitch stream here: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1810479907?t=00h54m58s

Regarding the 787, this is a loss for Quality Wings, IMO.  Quality Wings could have racked up a lot of sales in MSFS because the 787 that came with the Premium Deluxe version of MSFS just wasn't good.  But hey, you snooze, you lose.

I look forward to a better 787 and better 747 in MSFS!

Well now there is almost 0 need for QW. Probably QW will be even more buggy than WT anyway 😅

Is the 787 update coming as part of AU2?

AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, 64GB DDR5 6000MHZ RAM, RX7900XT, FreeSync 165hz 1440p display

Now we just need a 787-8 and -9 👀

In all seriousness I do wonder if they are going to be opening this up to other developers to use like the G3000/5000 so could someone create a 787-8 and then use what they have created.

But anyway - Very excited to try these out.

I hope these have simbrief integration.

Unlikely, they couldn't have it in the Garmin ones because of legal reasons, so I imagine it will be the same here.

Jorg says they're aiming for the AAU2 beta to start in 2 weeks.

At this time the plan is to leave that to third parties as we've done for the other planes

That's absolutely great news about AAU2 and the 787 and the 747 - cant wait..

Does anybody know when AAU2 is about to release ?

cheers 😉

Working Title continues to be one of the best (if not *the* best) things that happened to MSFS, and we continue to reap the awards (for free) ever since they became a part of the core MS/Asobo development team. I've got a feeling they'll be getting their hands dirty in the current ATC rework and other areas of the sim beside aircraft/avionics too. With devs like Sebastian, Matt, Sturmovik (ex IL-2), etc at the helm of MSFS development, we've got great things to look forward to in the future.

The premium deluxe version is looking to be of greater and greater value as time progresses, not to mention also the associated discounts that come with it now for certain for-pay add-ons.

Thanks to Working Title, the best default G1000, G3000, and G5000 for a flight simulator is in MSFS. And the best default GNS 430 and GNS 530 (but not payware GNS 430 and GNS 530) for a flight simulator is also in MSFS.

MSFS is fast becoming the best flight simulator for GA IFR flight as time progresses.

MSFS is the best Flightsimulator since a Flightsimulator hit the market - but this is just my view of things.

And we still go further..

I'm a bit more cautious here. It's a huge difference between the Longitude, which could basically just use the Garmin AP features once they were coded properly, and a Boeing aircraft, let alone a state-of-the-art 787. It took PMDG years to port an already long-established 737 over to MSFS and it has still features missing, so let's wait and see.
However there's also the possibility that there has been a secret project ongoing together with the qualitywings guys for years, which would at least explain why we haven't heard anything from them for years.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

Amazing how Working Title get the runway to align perfectly on the HUD in the 787 demo by using the raw sim data but RSR at PMDG blames the sim for why their runways take you into a parking lot on their 737 HUD. Imagine that….

The WT team have been busy answering all kinds of questions on their discord (and still are)... some raw copy/paste of quotes from the WT team:

question: does “updated systems simulation” include stuff that was so far only added by HeavyDivision mod like IRS alignment?
Matt (nishmaster) [Z-5] — Today at 14:42
Can't speak to super specific features yet but the avionics will be deep and the aircraft systems will be somewhere between the CJ4 and Longitude

Rob (kaosfere) [Z-5] — Today at 14:44
Don't give up hope on the G3X.   I'll say no more, but I will say that :)

On whether all buttons will be functional:
Matt (nishmaster) [Z-5] — Today at 14:48
Many to most but not necessarily all

On HUD and runway alignment issues that PMDG claim are MSFS core issues with magnetic variation table being not as precise:
Matt (nishmaster) [Z-5] — Today at 15:00
Not clear to me how they're doing it. We just take the real runway positions from the sim and project them into the HUD, not sure where magvar comes into it (it doesn't for us)
Charles (aznricepuff) [Z-4] — Today at 15:06
just another note: the runway edge lines implementation we have is all based on ILS signals. While we could "fake" it by getting the exact runway positions from the navdata, we actually calculate the position using localizer and glideslope deviations (as the real plane would).
Gabor [Z+2] — Today at 15:07
yeah they might be operating on the basis that the aircraft should only use information that would be available on board a real aircraft? that could explain why they need the magvar table

holland [Z-four] — Today at 15:08
you can enter a bunch of alternate diversion airports and you have a mini performance planner for each of them

Matt (nishmaster) [Z-5] — Today at 15:14
You can input assumed temps or derated thrust modes. Compute if you can/should use those, no. We do currently have the ability to compute v speeds in the FMC, though

on EFB in 787:
Matt (nishmaster) [Z-5] — Today at 15:15
We want to bring one (just for perf planning), but no guarantees at the moment

Gabor [Z+2] — Today at 15:21
You can still import a simbrief flight plan on the world map and it should be loaded in the plane

Matt (nishmaster) [Z-5] — Today at 15:25
Yes, you can input wind data on the CDU

Matt (nishmaster) [Z-5] — Today at 15:32
The code for the Boeings for VNAV is new, but shared between the Boeings. The lateral flight path vectorization is shared amongst everything we do, with some params injected for each implementation

Matt (nishmaster) [Z-5] — Today at 15:33
It's because it's the first time we've tackled non-geometric paths (i.e. performance based VNAV)

on autoland:
Matt: Yes, full autoland will be in

Matt (nishmaster) [Z-5] — Today at 15:42
Buy stuff from the Marketplace. If the sim is successful, then we keep our jobs :)

Gabor [Z+2] — Today at 15:46
The team is awesome so I hope Microsoft keeps throwing stuff at us to work on 🤣

Matt (nishmaster) [Z-5] — Today at 15:46
To be fair to us, I made a boatload of uneducated guesses at that first Q&A. Now, I'm super happy we've been able to bring so much that we wanted to, but credit goes to MS for the absolutely massive investment

Matt (nishmaster) [Z-5] — Today at 15:47
No, those are separate items. 787 has both an updated flight model and some updated sounds (had to get that signature Trent 1000 whine in there)
The 747 has an updated flight model, but no planned sound updates right now

on simbrief integration:
Matt (nishmaster) [Z-5] — Today at 16:11
No, not presently planned, we'll leave that up to third parties

Matt (nishmaster) [Z-5] — Today at 16:29
So, the VSD is low priority for us as rest of the information can be had from other screen
We're considering it more heavily as time goes on. It's also a big time sink in complexity because so much moves
