I did.  That just has check for updates / browse.  Then below that change drive or verify and repair.

Then you are already on the modern version, otherwise you would have an Enable button.

is there a downside to hitting "enable". Seems like a pretty drastic step to take, changing all the MSFS files.

Bob, as best I can tell, MS changed the installation setup when they introduced the XBox version.

If you are on the original (legacy) version, as I was, the Enable button transforms the old set up to the new standard.  Not sure I get any benefit out of having done this other than having unencrypted access to the core files, which I actually do not need at present..  This all came about when the STRIPR app was introduced and it was discovered that it did not work with the encrypted (legacy) install.

Is this only for the MS Store version, or for the Steam one too?

I believe this is only for the MS Store version.

So what would be an example of a "newly" unencrypted file that one could check to verify if the have the old legacy or the new modern version of the sim?

Thanks Bert -- found two such files, both 0 KB, so still encrypted I assume.  Think I'll "leave sleeping dogs lie" until I actually have a need for access to the unencrypted files.

UH, no I also have those..

Start up the XBox app, click on MSFS text on the left.. to the right of the PLAY button, click the "..." button.

Choose Manage, then click on files and Browse to the location of the folder.  Inside, open the Content folder and there it is.

Well, under GENERAL I see this:

And under FILES I see this:

So... still encrypted I assume. Since I haven't unencrypted it overtly, what would have -- maybe just a new sim install?

Correct.

If you push the Enable button, you can choose a new folder to move the core sim to (and unencrypt it).

Main features are:

- choose where to install PC games (select drive, select custom folder)

- have access to local files for many PC games (can edit+move files, mod games, etc.)

That was my take after watching the video and tells me clearly I have no need for it.  I prefer the KISS approach whenever possible
