It does not seem to move your whole install, just the content folder.

The "Content" folder within the Flight Simulator folder are both moved, not to be confused with what we refer to as the "MSFS Content" which is the Official+Community folders.  😉

That is the "new" default location.

I meant the different file size, I suppose your 218 "KB" was a typo?

Thanks for all of the helpful replies on this, especially from @Bert Pieke - very helpful!

I will give you an update on how it went for me later on (I will probably try it tonight), and about what happens during the next update, just for Bob!

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Changing all the files from one type to another, what could possibly go wrong?   😉

For those of you that have converted to the unencrypted sim version, how have you taken advantage of the change, or plan to take advantage of it?

Thanks,

Al

No, there is no real advantage unless you need an unencrypted exe file to use with a program like //42 Stripr that needs access to the exe file.

By the way, I uninstalled the core sim last year because I left a beta, and the new version was installed automatically - just the 2 GB core files, you don't have to move your community and official folders.

Just uninstall and reinstall and point the installer to the folder where the community and official folders are. (Make a backup of your usercfg.opt and exe.xml if necessary).

I also "unintentionally" did this update to the modern system when I left beta earlier this year at one point.  Ironically I went back in a few months after.  Maybe I didn't learn my lesson?    In all seriousness it wasn't that much of a chore since my community is in another location and handled via add on linker.

okay so I follow this method to convert to modern unencrypted format, yet I cannot do anything with the files. It keeps saying I need to provide admin permissions to perform the action. How do I give myself admin permissions? I hit continue which has the ADMIN logo (the yellow and blue shield) but then it says You require permission from the Administrators to make changes to this file and gives me 2 options, try again and cancel.

I'm logged into my account and it says I'm Administrator.

For some strange reason, I'm able to move/copy all files in the content folder excepr for FlightSimulator.exe.

I right clicked on FlightSimulator.exe and went to properties > Security, and noticed the only difference was under the Group ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES that Full control and modify were unchecked. Not sure how to fix this. If anyone knows, please help me.
