The NSA is ridiculously messy with many local quirks. In the real world, you might be flying into North Las Vegas airport and be told by Harry Reid International's approach controller to "Fly towards the Stratosphere, we'll call your turn." or you might be flying into KMYF in San Diego but be lined up for KNKX by accident, and the controller who sees this almost daily might go "72H looks like you're lined up for Miramar. Turn left and enter the right base for 28R."

Funny that I exactly live these two exact examples in the real life. During my first arrival à KLAS in a Cessna and the wellknown Miramar Montgomery mix 🙂

I'm very skeptical in 2023 with anything "AI based". So much marketing BS. And I'm not at all impress by the text2speech demonstrated in this segment for the take off clearance https://youtu.be/BH_pN0xK3rk?t=851

I'll monitor the frequency as ATC is a huge immersive feature for my usage of MSFS (VFR).

Sounded OK to me....??

Yeah, well, that's because you are used to PF3 voices. JUST KIDDING, couldn't resist, sorry, Bob. 😉 But I think vbazillio is talking about the accent in that clip: seems a bit odd to have such an accent at CYVR. I do think the voices are a bit of a mixed bag. Probably due to all the different voice sources they are using.

Not sure if you are only referring to AI in context of flight sim or in general. But AI is definitely the future. I could imagine AI being integrated into the sim in the coming years. Assuming they have enough ATC data, they could potentially train an ATC AI model.

That was the one thing I didn't like about Pro ATCX when I used it years ago. I don't need ATC giving me vectors from one waypoint to the next when I am flying a Sid or a STAR. If I remember the voices in Vox ATC were a real turnoff.

Yes, PRO ATCX was really overvectoring also, also I send one support request and never heard anything from them!

With a SID normally no vectors unless seperation issues.

What I prefer is getting cleared for a STAR and around the IAF the STAR changes into Vectors by the approach controller. This is also what happens lot of times in reallife.

I see there is some talk on their Discord channel about fees for using this app, like a subscription per month, or per flight. Not crazy about that idea, but I guess they have to pay for the servers they will be using.

It is not the servers but the voices, because they use high quality voices, they have to pay for using that.

Bad thing then .  pilot2atc has only one payment when you buy it

I'd be willing to pay a subscription as long as it's reasonably low. I'm also a fan of companies that have a life-time buy-out option in lieu of a subscription.

For me personally, I'd top out at $4.99 / month or a $75 buy out, assuming the program absolutely knocks it out of the park with features and capabilities.

Take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory.
The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire.
To make a small fortune in aviation you must start with a large fortune.

There's nothing less important than the runway behind you and the altitude above you.
It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground.

Same for me. If it's something like $10 / month like Navigraph or PSXT+RT I will probably pass. Lots of subscriptions adding up.

I saw that conversation as it happened Bob.One particular "enthusiastic" individual went from suggesting that it should be subscription based to then suggesting that it should be "per flightplan"! He then launched into concerns of people sharing licenses and cheating the as yet non existant subscription service!

Misplaced enthusiasm I think!

I am willing to pay also if it is really good.

The problem is that a lot of high quality voices services nowadays charge you per amount of text you use.
So if they don't do a subscription they will be bassically bankrupt in notime.

But of course it is not only the voice which make a good ATC program, the rest has to be outstanding then also.

I also thought I'd rather pay per month, 3 or 4 to maybe 5 bucks, than having to pay for hours of usage. Then again... the dev talked about 300 hours of TALKING for around 5 bucks (as an example)... So that's not flying hours but actual AI talking hours... How many hours have you flown in MSFS...? 300 hours is a LOT and in that case 5 bucks is peanuts and it would certainly be cheaper than having to pay 3 to 5 bucks per month (specially of you consider there won't be a time limit to the amount of minutes you bought).

Quote from the dev:

"Keep in mind the base purchase of the program would come with like 300-500 voice time hours, and some users will probably never even hit that. So this is really only an issue for people who are simming a lot."

And:

"We will 100% provide a zero voice option. That's free, no reason not to do it. So it will be all text, which sucks, but will be an option."
