July 7, 20232 yr I'm all for B-ATC voices I was simply offering another approach. I dont see just 5 english. Chris Chiozza
July 7, 20232 yr I’ll be interested to see whether Canadian ATC used FAA or ICAO phraseology. It’s a mix of both, I’d say more FAA than ICAO though. The dev said "We're utilizing many AI voice services to provide the 100+ voices with accents mentioned in our trailer." Disadvantage may be (and you can sometimes hear in the video's) that some sources are better than others and you might hear differences. Then again... you could also call it an advantage because in real life voice are (very) different too. 😉

Shockingly so. I hear more variety in pilot voices than I do controllers. Was talking with my FO about this the other day, actually. We counted 3 different sounding male voices over the course of a 3 hour flight. Unless it’s something obviously different like an accent or southern drawl, the tones are really very consistent. July 9, 20232 yr I guess I've been living under a rock, since I only now discovered this preview. Can't wait for this and purchasing day one. Jorg hinted in that direction many times. Exactly my concerns. I'm afraid nobody will probably be able to answer this until the release of MSFS2024. It looks great but I'll probably pass on it until I'd be be sure it won't become obsolete in a few months. EDIT: Now I see it says "Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024" on their website. That's great, I'm just wondering how do they know that, since 2024 is supposed to have improved ATC system? Edited July 10, 20232 yr by Tomaz Drnovsek Tomaz Drnovsek My FSX Videos My AVSIM Gallery

It's a lot of annoying, tedious work, they won't bother and leave this to 3PDs. As for ChatGPT, I'll let ChatGPT answer: ME: Could you be put into MSFS 2024 and replace the complete ATC system?ChatGPT ChatGPT: As an AI language model, I don't have the capability to be directly implemented into specific software or systems like Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS) 2024. While I can generate text-based responses and provide information, integrating me into a complex software system like an ATC (Air Traffic Control) system would require significant development and technical considerations. ATC systems involve real-time interactions, complex algorithms, and integration with various data sources and protocols. They also require compliance with aviation regulations and standards. Implementing an AI model like me as a complete replacement for a real-world ATC system would require extensive testing, validation, and regulatory approvals. Furthermore, I should note that aviation safety is of paramount importance, and ATC systems are critical for ensuring the safe operation of air traffic. Designing, developing, and deploying such systems involves stringent procedures and expert oversight to maintain the highest standards of safety and efficiency. While AI has the potential to enhance and support ATC systems, any integration would require careful planning, coordination, and validation by aviation authorities and industry professionals. For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

Putting "voices" aside, what all do you believe needs "fixed" in the default ATC to make it essentially good enough for most users here? I pose this question because there is already a lot that is working, and I could imagine a set of focused improvements that could largely remediate the major areas of deficit. I put voices aside because I can see ChatGPT or similar easily coming up with all the right accents and nuances for regional ATC very quickly. July 11, 20232 yr Hmm I don't know... I really don't see too much here so far. No speed call outs for spacing, That's my major must have. The voices are very robotic. Some are downright implausible. I have never heard a United captain sound like that... doesn't mean there isn't but highly unlikely. It's great for Spain, Mexico, or Colombia though. I assume, the label of Canada is what triggered a French accent in Vancouver... also unlikely. but okay... the idea of regional voice packs is very attractive especially in Europe. The accents sound better than the American ones. The American ones aren't much better than Azure voices. I guess my issue us that I haven't seen anything groundbreaking...yet. If I set up my flight plan in Simbrief and load the exact same flight in the default planner I get mostly the same experience. Plus, I just let the AI co-pilot answer 90% of the time especially on approach (after Im off the ground I switch it on). I have actually been pretty happy lately with default traffic and ATC. FSLTL has been a real game changer for AI and ATC has improved significantly. I mean it still does wacky things like "descend and maintain 9000", then 2 minutes later "climb and maintain FL180' even though you are on final approach. But.. if you ignore it, it will usually give you the next descent alt correctly. I have noticed default ATC is doing a decent job of following STARs. I did an approach to KSLC and it It correctly called out descent points every time. However, when approaching an airport like Boise Tucson during good weather I'd expect visuals. Also, I had to figure out that FSLTL jets keep 240 kts. to Transition then 210 kts to 3 miles then 180kts to just above the runway. I couldn't figure out why I kept getting run over so I flew along side AI for an entire final approach and man it keeps high speed all the way to the runway. I wish FSLTL could fix this. They should be below 180kts by the glideslope intercept from what I have seen in real world ATC at Denver and Phoenix. What I would really love is for VATSIM to become a subscription service that offers monetary compensation to controllers and has specific hours in advance so I can no where to fly.. I have never once had a good VATSIM session. Even if I find 2 airports with controllers the arrival airport controller goes offline before I get there and it just has kind of soured me on VATSIM. I understand it is better in Europe, but I'm not getting up at 4 in the morning so I can have a midday session in Europe. Edited July 11, 20232 yr by aniiran
