Realistic Day/Night transition worth the Upgrade to V6

Featured Replies

As i was waiting a little bit unless there are more experiences about up and downs of the the Verison, i decided to just get it now and see for myself. At least the most important weather generator Aktive Sky supports it which is immanent .

But i was surprised in a very positve way by the athmospheric model, because now, the transition time from day to night has significantly changed and take now way more time, after the sun disapeared behing the horizion. Beside other little Up`s of V6, this new behavior allone makes it worth for me to use V6 from now on.

Good Job LM🙂

Bernd, can you comment on the antialiasing? Is that any better in v6 than in v5?  What I mean is the "creeping ants" effect you sometime see on very thin edges, e.g. lamp posts, fences, some runway centrelines but not all (depends on scenery) etc.

Maybe, but i´ve never used REX. But now it´s even modeled within p3d´s native graphic engine, that´s the majer point for me, and it could be even enhanced by the right add-ons. As the typical undertaker this wasn´t even mentioned in the notes by LM.

I do not have v6 but watching YT i see bizarre dusk/dawn colors.

For my taste those are way off, sometimes looks like atmosphere from different planet.

If you are referring to the ones I think you are, that is because he was using Rex skyforce which is not compatible and did weird things.

Absolutely NOT. I'm waiting for the hot fix. The transitions are not right at all. However its not all bad...day time is awesome. Much better lighting then 4 or 5. I really wish they would just contract REX to provide there expertise.

Are stars still visible with the sun above the horizon? That is a long-standing bug since FSX days.

In real life you would never see any stars until the sun is well below the horizon. Venus being the second object to become visible once sufficiently far enough from the sun. The moon would be the first of course.

I just purchased v6 and while the day/night transition is different, there is one moment that makes it unusable:

At dusk, after sunset while the sky is still light, the ground and aircraft are almost completely pitch black... Things become better when the sky becomes completely dark. But there’s this 30 minute period where the sim looks horrible between sunset and pitch-black. Has anyone noticed this and/or found a solution? This is default, no REX or active sky or post processing effects enabled. Changing brightness setting etc has no effect.

Yes, same issue here

Anybody else seeing a lightish brown haze/fog on the horizon nearly everywhere?

Can't seem to get rid of it.

I am using the latest versions of ASCA and ASP6.

Well, I gave it a few tests and No! they aren't.

I find the transition from daylight to dusk and then night is very well done in P3Dv6.

Hi Ray, i´ve not much time to check that particularly since, but what i´ve seen so far only a few Stars (or Planets like Venus) apear when the Sun is nearly behind the Horizon. It´s may not as good as this is done by Asobo, but it´s way better as in V5 or V4. The Duration of the iluminated sky, even with Sun already wnt down isn´t perfect but a lot better as ever before. The issue seems now, that the scenery is going very dark at this twilight phase and it takes much longer until the Airport lights turn to night and get switched on. It seems there´s much finetunig need to be done to brightness and all the new shading options.

Yes, confirm this. There seems to be strange Fog-layer which looks like a layer of smog. But i´am sure this will be corrected soon, by LM or HiFi. I remember that i´ve seen something similar when LM introduced TrueSky in V5, and that was corrected after one or two HF´s.

Yep, that's it, exactly !

How this passed beta testing is beyond me, it's horrible looking.
