August 15, 20232 yr Just took off from CYCG Castlegar in MSFS. Had to double check the metar. No mistake, 40°c on the tarmac, in the mountains. Im guessing most houses don’t have AC? i910900k, RTX 3090, 32GB DDR4 RAM, AW3423DW, Ruddy girt big mug of Yorkshire Tea
August 16, 20232 yr What do you mean? We live in igloos! 😀 Installed a heat pump last year, awesome with AC. Many people get them now! Most of what is said on the Internet may be the same thing they shovel on the regular basis at the local barn.
August 16, 20232 yr At least, the humidity is very low, around 15%. I think parts of India recently were 40C with over 80% humidity, plus heavy rain. Dugald Walker

No aircon in the vast majority of houses, just shops and offices. Hence, when we get a heatwave, which is becoming more common, we can't handle the heat so well. I'm guessing AC will start to become more common in British homes. Edited August 16, 20232 yr by martin-w

I think the whole interior of BC, between the Coast Mountains and the Rockies, gets pretty warm in the summer. I'm guessing that spells of up to 30C are not uncommon. An even more surprising high temperature of 37.4C was recorded this July at Fort Good Hope, NWT, right on the Arctic Circle. Dugald Walker

Im guessing most houses don’t have AC? In Southwestern Ontario Canada, where I live, most homes have AC. It is not uncommon in the summer to have 30c-33c with a humidex making it feel like 35c-40c (95F-104F). Yeah, in fact I've seen articles about a push to replace natural gas units and install heat pumps in Europe. Here's the problem - they use a *lot* of electricity. Plus, they are recommended for places that have mild winters. I wonder what the electrical load would be if everyone switched to a heat pump? Yep, there is currently a push for heat pumps. I recall that the UK have a £5000 grant for heat pipe tech, 6 hours ago, dave2013 said: Here's the problem - they use a *lot* of electricity. Plus, they are recommended for places that have mild winters. Depends how they are designed. If configured properly they can be effective in cold climates. In fact, below 0 Fahrenheit they heat with more than twice the efficiency of traditional UK gas fired central heating systems. Apparently they've been tested as far north as the Arctic Circle. The big issue is installation cost. The pipework in a UK home with a combi boiler, gas fired, is too small in regard to pipe diameter so the entire system usually needs new pipework. 15mm and 22mm pipe won't cut it. The installation can cost as much as £15K for an air source heat pump. Depends if its an air source heat pump or ground source heat pump though. Ground source heat pumps are best, but require extensive pipework buried in the garden, either horizontally or vertically. A ground source heat pump can be as much as £45,000. Yikes! 😲
