No Boats/Ships = Smoother (So Far)

Featured Replies

I was at my wits end with this simulator due to rather extreme freezes/stutters...even in the San Juan Islands or approaching Burbank from Ontario in Southern California.

So I went with only stock airports as an experiment, still had the issues.

As another experiment I went with no AI ships...not the amazing global package I adore nor default AI ships.

Things are amazingly smooth now (so far, after a bunch of sessions).

Just flew a flight between Drzweicki Design’s Renton, over their DD Seattle, and back down into a landing at their amazing new KPAE Paine Field in a PMDG 737 with not a single freeze!

Will continue to experiment, but wondering if others have seen this (or might try it if facing stutters/2 second freezes)?

As far as the AI ship addon, my understanding was that you might get the pause when the particular ship model loads into the sim for the first time.  Once it has loaded, you should not have them any longer for that model.  I noticed this when I first installed it but now I rarely get them.

I just enable them with Addons Linker for the region I'm going to fly and don't have any stutters.

Although I love GAIST, I too have noticed fewer stutters without them and much faster loading times too.  It's a trade off between eye candy and performance, which has always been the case in flight simulators.

Turning down airport traffic, people, road traffic and lowering FSLTL settings will also have similar effects as will reducing some of your main settings.

Personally, I can live with most of the performance hits most of the time as I love the eyer candy and high LODs but I have to tone things down in some areas, particularly when using add-on photo scenery.

FSLTL gives more of a performance dip than GAIST ever does in my experience.

That's not true anymore. All the GAIST ship models are native MSFS model types now, if you have the latest version.

The lag was caused by the sim converting the FSX model format to something MSFS can read.

Thanks for the responses and heads up on the new version of GAIST with native models too.

And of course I had to look up what FSLTL was and am now enjoying that with reasonable settings. 🙂

I've seen a Youtube video maybe a couple months ago. Same solution was advised in it: Move the slider to 0 AI ships and stutters will improve. That was the whole point of that particular video.

Just a quick question regards lowering FSLTL settings.  Where in the injector do you do this.  I thought it injected all live traffic no matter how many were operating?  Can you actually lower the amount of live traffic it displays?

You can do it when you launch the injector or in the in-sim menu. Check this: https://www.fslivetrafficliveries.com/user-guide/

I don't know but I see the seas empty with GAIST with the right regions installed and Seafront installed, I set the cursors to 100% for the ships and in CRZ I see no boats but also no yawning and the same for car traffic at 100% I don't notice a drop in FPS or lag...

I think it's either GAIST and/or Seafront are addons for flying at low altitude at FL350 we don't see any boats...

Sounds like you were probably getting main thread limited

Stutters, micro stutters, freezes, pauses are all so subjective it's sometimes hard to know what the OP or any other person is actually experiencing (including myself) .  Nevertheless, unless you have reasonably powerful PC any attempt to process GAIST or FSLTL, or weather or PG or heavy airport scenery especially all at the same time, is likely to place you in struggle street and stutters and pauses will tell you that. so turn down your settings (I have sometimes done this on decent to avoid stutters on approach) or ramp up your PC specs (not sure what yours are?).

Micro stutters (momentary blips if you like) appear to be a completely different ball of wax, occurring invisibly even in an a still situation or clearly visible in aircraft sitting on the ground in a desert in Australia with no weather, no live AI, no live ships and at night!

But, with 2 second pauses (which is quite long) it sounds like yours are occurring because your system is trying to process too much information at that point in time.  Good luck👍

No. No, Mav, this is not a good idea.

Sorry Goose, but it's time to buzz the tower!

Boeing Thrustmaster TCA Yoke, Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant, Turtle Beach Velocity One Rudder Pedals.

2 or more second pauses i find are due to scenery objects loading ( e.g. airports , cities, POI's like cranes, marinas, wind turbines etc.)

I notice around KLAX , these pauses happening like crazy. Funny that i had the same issues in FSX , P3d 32 bit ,and P3d 64 Bit.

Must be the increased latency
