High Frames But Stutters

Featured Replies

  • Commercial Member

Hey all!

I just can't seem to get rid of my stutters...When using the Fenix A320, I get stutters no matter the frames. If I lock at 30, it's not smooth. If I uncap and get close to 45-50fps, it's not smooth. Settings are medium to high so not sure what else I can do. Specs are in  my signature. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers!

Sounds youre running out of Vram. Lower your texture quality and maybe resolution and see if stuttering stops. If it does, your 3080 does not have enough Vram.

When I display FPS in DEV mode, I never see VRAM getting maxed out. Always have anywhere from 1-2gb free.

Yeah, I notice random drops as well. I keep everything locked 30 with medium settings and it still happens.

My only thought is the sim loading a ridiculous amount of objects like when you fly over an area with a lot of "stuff" around you.

I must say that my stutters are only on the ground. So unstable for me in a LOT of airports....LOD is also set to 100.

You should get fewer stutters when using DLSS than when using TAA.

I used to have a 9900KS few years ago, never eliminated stutters with it.

This MIGHT help. Worth a try.

I believe you're low then.  As I understand it, windows allocates some vram as well.  Mine does the same (rtx4080) near inibuilds airports.

Absolutely--and he is using a 4K display which is far more relevant than what settings he's using in MSFS, especially God forbid if he's amped up Render Scaling as well.

So even when MSFS says I'm only using 5-6gb out of 9gb, I'm still out of VRAM? Render scaling is at 100. Again this mainly happens with the Fenix A320. (I know that it's a plane that uses a lot of resources)

Use MSI Afterburner to check your VRAM, not dev mode. Dev mode only shows the VRAM used by the sim, not the total VRAM used. And get a Gsync or Freesync monitor and unlock FPS, smooth as silk.

As mentioned we have similar hardware except you are at 4K and me at 3440x1440, and there is a huge difference in processing requirements these two.  4K taxes your CPU significantly more as well as VRAM needs.  What no one here that I know of has spoken w/ any authority about is this fact:  users w/ VRAM capacity in the 16-24Gb range will report levels of VRAM in use approaching 19Gb, at least earlier on in MSFS 2020.  This states MSFS can use more VRAM if it's available, but when not it's using system RAM to store data bound for VRAM or some other schema because very few users relative to all users have VRAM amounts over 12Gb if that.  Do stutters happen as this dynamic runtime unfolds in the course of a demanding flight?  Nope, unequivocally, nope.  Why?  I don't have stutters!  And yet I don't see up to 19Gb of VRAM in use!

Where, not seeing this metric in MSI.
