October 9, 20232 yr All of a sudden my P3D v5.4 has started crashing and I don't know why. I can't run the sim for more than 30 seconds before it crashes. The sim will freeze then crash to the desktop. Here is the event log. I did install 3 sceneries, but I uninstalled them and the sim still crashes. There is nothing that directly shows what this "something" is, but in all the cases that I have seen it has proven to be a badly programmed or incompatible add-on. So, it could have been the airplane you were flying at the time, a scenery add-on that you flew over, or - something else, like weather add-on. I was in the default F-35 and I was using the Activesky weather. (I was on the ground at SXAD San Antonio scenery but I uninstalled the scenery and the sim still crashes)
October 9, 20232 yr Author I just uninstalled the last 3 airports I installed but the sim is still crashing. I also uninstalled the last 2 Windows 11 updates thinking that is the problem, it wasn't sim still crashes. I am at a loss right now. I have no idea what could be causing this.
October 9, 20232 yr Make sure you don't have a MW Windows update waiting to get fetched & installed. If you're on Win 10, it's a good reason for crashes involving: Exception code: 0xc0000005 Regarding that " SXAD San Antonio scenery" make sure that it is NOT ACTIVE in your scenery library, through the P3D Options menu. I put back all Windows 11 updates I had uninstalled. And the sim crashes all over the place not just at San Antonio. I have had crashes at add-on airports and default airports.
October 9, 20232 yr Try clearing your shader cache. Here are instructions on how to do it. dv Win 10 Pro || i7-8700K || 32GB || ASUS Z370-P MB || NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11Gb || 2 960 PRO 1TB, 840 EVO My Files in the AVSIM Library

I also encountered CTD with g2d.dll error on P3D v5.4 and in my case it was due to the latest release of Nvidia driver ver. 537.42 because after returning to ver. 537.34 I no longer had CTD.
October 9, 20232 yr It could be a problem with a corrupt default flight--you might try restoring the original default flight (F-35 at KRND IIRC). In any event, your default flight should be a default P3D acft at a default P3D airfield. After deleting any scenery go into the main P3D install and run the delete Generated files tool this will remove any effects that may be left behind when you delete something. Raymond Fry.

That’s the nuclear option. Last resort. Involves lots of work to install anything that has an entry in scenery.cfg. Deleting the Prepar3D.cfg is the best option. Ray (Cheshire, England). October 10, 20232 yr Author Got home and just fired up the sim, and it has been running for 10 minutes with no crashes (I could not go more than 30 seconds without the sim crashing yesterday). I guess I had some sort of computer glitch and turn off the computer reset it and when I turned it back on everything got fixed.

For some unknown reason, the fan control had stopped working properly and once I reset it to something a bit more realistic the temps. came down by more than 10 degrees and the CTDs stopped.
