PMDG 737 Tablet updates are available

This is possible with direct download of files from simbrief via simbrief downloader. Maybe this was also implemented via the tablet now.

So...was it possible BEFORE efb? But how?!

I use Navigraph on another monitor and that gives me a lot more fluid and better solution than using this mediocre UFB.

But useless for the PMDG 737 as it does not need the downloader anymore (unlike e.g. the AS CRJ)

I have various thoughts on this thing.

  • I do think it is worthwhile having this in-sim. Not everyone has multiple monitors, devices, etc to run the various EFB bits on. Especially VR folks, an in-sim EFB is a requirement. I think a decent amount of AVSIM members have complicated setups for our hobby, but I do not think we are the norm here.
  • That said, on the Fenix/FBW I do use the in-sim EFB a lot. I have an ultrawide monitor so I position my view so I can see the EFB into when entering destination data, and I keep the approach chart up in-game.
  • I am disappointed that the ground handling, payload, fuel, etc aren't in the EFB. However, if I had to pick something to punt to get the thing out today that is what I'd pick.
  • My guess is, they got the shared stuff that the 777 will need out. I'd expect the 777 to have the ground handling stuff in the EFB. There is also valuable data about how folks use the EFB and the various use cases they will discover -- namely around airports that might not be commonly flown into.
  • All that said, this is still disappointing. The Google Maps and Metar bug should have been caught in testing. It looks like the the METAR bug is related to the hour in which data is fetched, but around 9pm EST -- when this was released -- isn't a weird time for a tester to fly. I assume a decent amount of testers are folks who fly in their downtime hours. The way PMDG acknowledged the issue, it did not strike me as a server issue, but we will see.
  • While I will advocate for folks in the first use case I mentioned (single-device/monitor) that is not me. I will likely use the in-sim EFB. I like seeing the route, etc. I do use Simbrief, Charts, etc. on my iPad, but I use this device for other things during cruise.  However, my iPad/MacBook will likely be the EFB I use.

The only thing that EFB does that my Avliasoft EFB doesn't do, is performance calculations, and I have always been able to do that just using the FMC without any issues. I will probably use it for a day or so, and then turn it off.

You always call it Avliasoft but it's Aivlasoft. 😉

Considering the features and user interface (what would Michelangelo say?) of this tablet, it is underwhelming at best... if it took them 18 months or so finish this then I'm seriously concerned about their engineering prowess. I hope they manage to come up with a decent 777.

Did they finally added a possibility to enter/import enroute winds?

Uhhh... This has been there since day one.

But it sounds better.

Anyway, I learned something today. I used the performance calculator in the PMDG EFB, and it said I was slightly overweight, which didn't show up in the FMC. I recalculated, and then it OKd takeoff. I guess I will use that function. As far as flightplanning, I am going to do it as I always did with Simbrief downloader.

I use the downloader on every PMDG flight, why are you claiming it isn't needed anymore?

The EFB when you request SimBrief data downloads the route files to that directory. They just replicated the downloader functions.

Because it isn't.
