Well, maybe if this gets enough traction, Asobo will catch on like they did with the "sky tweaks." Needed a community dude to get it going, then they piggybacked on his findings and incorporated it into the sim's code lol. December 16, 20232 yr The fact that we ordinary players know it can be done and its probably technically not a difficult thing to do for the experts, begs the question as to why Assobo hasn't already done it. I was inquiring about such an app a couple of years ago once I realized that on the ground at big international airports with lots of traffic if LOD was turned down from 400 to 150 it made little difference to the visuals that I noticed but easily put my FPS from the low 20's to significantly above the threshold of 30 for a smooth gaming experience. Conversely in the air 150 is terrible and 400 is desirable and achievable at 30+ fps. It stroke me at the time that something like Dymanic FFTF which we had for earlier version would be the ticket where you could set that LOD to change to a preset value once you got below a certain altitude and increase as you go above certain values. Given the phenomenon of low frame rates on the ground has always be supper annoying in FS one would think that they would have prioritized something like this given it seems to be not a big deal to do it. Makes me wonder are they're looking after their graphics card making friends. You scratch my back I'll scratch yours! December 16, 20232 yr When Parallel42 had a sale on the Flow Pro i noticed they had something simular as shortcuts to the wheel. Not automatic but at least you can change these settings your self without the need to go to the menu and interrubt the flight. So we have something in between Michael Moe Michael Moe

I haven't seen anyone post that this app works at all, much less reliably, and we've already had a highly experienced professional developer tell us that this can be an inherently dangerous (to the extent that anything can actually be dangerous in flight sim) methodology for interacting with MSFS itself. So how do we know that it its probably not a difficult thing to do? One of the posters earlier in the thread confirmed that it worked in an earlier version of sim but once the exe was updated in an SU it nolonger worked and Virtuali explained why. Also I am not suggesting an external app. I'm suggesting Assobo build it into the code. I use an app that changes my refresh rate on the fly with a key stroke and in doing so I get a black screen for 1/4 second. If I put up with that, I'll put up with anything! 🤣 Can you elaborate a bit more on how you can accomplish this with Flow Pro without going to the setting menu? It must be built in now. Didn't know about it either. Seems like it'd be easily automated through Flow though, all it'd need is a reference for target FPS at various altitudes. I was literally just reading that.🤣 It seems the Pro version of this could be used to automate the whole thing if the user has the requisite skill. I don't but it seem that they have a data base of trusted users who can write Java scripts etc. I couldn't do but I'd imagine someone else will. I may at some point pick this addon up. There are shortcuts to deal with almost every graphics including TLOD and autogenLOD .You can quickly in steps of 10 +- change these on the go via the wheel. Very nice indeed. Would be nice if there was a target to set so you dont have to change in 10 steps but its much better than interrubting the flight. Michael Moe Michael Moe

Michael Moe I say a screen shot while I was looking it over that showed the increment as 5+- which makes me wonder if the app has some setting for changing the +- increment. If so I'd go with 50+- Intel Core i9-10900K at 5.2GHz, Corsair H115i PRO, ASUS MAXIMUS XII HERO Z490, G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 15-16-16-36, ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3090, SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS M.2 2280 1TB x 3, Corsair HX Series HX1000 Watt PSU, Pimax Crystal LIght.

Both the altitude and the FPS dependent LOD-changes work fine so far. LOD change in the background on the fly without any interruption or stutter in the sim. This seems to be a gamechanger - unless anyone encounters any adverse effects. (I'm talking about the OP's app here, not that Flow thingy.)
December 16, 20232 yr What's it supposed to do? I proposed near launch we needed code to make objects not in line of sight shrink in resolution since you can't see them. This would help with ground and low level performance, so initial climb and approaches on down to taxi would run better. I think that's already happening. We had a major performance bump in I think it was SU5 and guessed that might have been part of it. That was years ago now. Right now even on a 3+ y/o CPU and GPU I have liquid smooth performance everywhere in anything. I'm surprised to hear from top end CPU and RTX 4090 users they have any need for this. I also use DSR 4.00x and between that and maxed out settings can't see where to improve w/ regard to object and terrain LOD. Seems about like it should except where the native textures aren't good fundamentally. When I changed from TLOD of 100 to 200 or even 400 the visual differences are virtually absent often.
