I mainly fly VFR flight in US. SayIntentions.ai (previously announced as Smartsky.ai) seems to be promising. https://sayintentions.ai/ Their discord is here: https://discord.gg/sy5yRxCs

On reddit, they said "We're getting ready to launch -- and we've changed the name from SmartSky to SayIntentions. (https://sayintentions.ai) in an effort to avoid a naming conflict with an aviation company."

As usual, the FAQ is useful to read: https://sayintentions.ai/faq/ For example, "Is the ATC "traffic aware" ?" (yes, only for flightfollowing) or does SayIntentions.ai injects its own trafic (no)

  • Also, $15 to $25?? That’s up to $300 a year! I paid $60 for Pilot2ATC and it has worked “fine” for four years. I can’t imagine that I had paid $1,200 for it!  I wish them well but sure wouldn’t buy

There is a delay but nowhere near 1 minute.  And IFR does work.  It’s new and not bug free.  I just tried it all myself this weekend and signed up.  For the flaws it has which are being tweaked at an

Oh bugger. Looks like it's FAA- land exclusively?

I like what they're showcasing, especially as they're catering for a different crowd to the one BeyondATC is aimed at.

Worth noting this bit in their faq:

Pilot Edge: 'pricing starts at $19.95/month.'

BeyondATC: '1 million characters = $16'

Don't forget, it's the AI TTS providers that are charging on a per character basis that is driving this 'subscription'/PAYG cost.

Some people will value that extra immersion. I'm glad that BeyondATC will have three pricing options.

I'm certainly glad Beyond ATC saw sense, although strange they are not supporting SAPI voices. With them I will be interested in seeing how long their "free" bit lasts on Standard.

As for PilotEdge & this lot - zero interest from me, especially as this one is starting as 1/ US only & 2/ VFR only..... either of which would prevent me from buying it, subscription or not...

The "BATC" FREE offline voices sound better than the paid in my opinion:-

I once joked about threads where people ask for ATC solutions, that almost every reply offers a different solution because there's so many. Looks like we're going back to that, especially with the rise of AI. At least we're spoiled for choice.

To be fair many of the older solutions still work fine as well......

The new players in town brings something different from the legacy offers. First: quality of voices to simulate ATC and other traffic. Second: natural voice recognition with my own wording.

Finally and back to this thread: the focus on VFR (in US).

Viewed in isolation some may consider this a good deal.
However, when you add in the ongoing subscription costs of an Internet connection, Navigraph subscription, Volanta, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney, Sky TV, Spotify and many others, it starts getting out of control. VATSIM is great but very limited in coverage.
I’m glad to see Beyond ATC is really listening to the community and offering choice. Other add on developers could follow suit by offering tiered purchasing options such as airport sceneries with or without detailed interiors (never understood that one) and aircraft without detailed interiors. Or at least make them a selectable option in game to help with any performance issues.

Cheers

Remember many years ago when everyone complained about the cable tv (and other) monopolies where you had to buy 'all' the channels to get the ones you liked?

'We want a la carte! We want a la carte!'

Should have been more careful in what we wished for maybe..........

  • 2 weeks later...

SayIntentions.ai and is now slated for release on January 15th.

This latest announcement also comes with some very cool updates regarding the product’s features:

  • Full support for Class-B, C, and D airspaces.
  • Services including flight followings, radar services, traffic advisories, and more.
  • Coverage of every airport in the USA.
  • Custom voices and controller personalities.

SayIntentions.ai aims to simplify this introduction to ATC, offering a more forgiving and non-judgmental approach. Specifically, its ‘Student Pilot’ mode, designed with new flight simulation enthusiasts in mind, provides extra guidance and patience from controllers.

The price range of $15 to $25 per month. The team also plans to offer a free trial area likely around Lake Tahoe/Reno, Nevada, to allow users to experience the product before committing.

That's too bad....I'm just not into paying a subscription for an addon alone, that includes Navigraph subs as well.
