Fenix update is out.

Very nice 😄.

Another nice effect that enhances immersion a lot with the Fenix is the one for the speedbrakes.

Be aware of the low alt turbulence effect though. I'm not sure if it has been solved but it could have adverse effects on the flightmodel of the Fenix. I have it off.

I can't understand, we have one of the best study level simulated airplanes and someone needs these kind of enhancements? This makes an A320 for dummies, in my opinion.

Missing the PMDG DC6 in MSFS 2024 (she's here, but...).

Do you though, Bob? Do you really know what you're talking about? Just as you did when you wrongly assumed I didn't do an autoland last night which in fact I did. That claim of yours sent me on a

This reminds me of that hokey old gag about the aircraft maintenance write-up: PILOT: Autoland on this aircraft is excessively firm MECHANIC: Autoland not fitted on this aircraft

And the AI gave some useful tips. As you were, Claudius.

The AI in this vid is a bit disconcerting! 😲

He IS an AI, right? I became a bit obsessed with this (although I saw the whole video and found it very educational).

‘But I kept thinking: “is he real?”. It was somewhat uncanny TBH, but “he” got the message through.

I think when he referred to “V app” as “5 app” I became pretty sure he was some kind of AI.

Key points:

  • Idle thrust around 30ft or based on conditions (earlier for steep approaches, tailwind etc)
  • In case of a high bounce, maintain current pitch attitude and perform a GA
  • NEVER lower the nose (in an attempt to force the aircraft down) after flare initiated
  • Once reverse thrust is set, you’re committed to continue rollout phase (i.e. too late for a GA)
  • Idle thrust by touchdown or spoilers might not deploy correctly
  • GA close to ground: avoid excessive rotation to avoid tail strike

Please correct me if I got something wrong.

When he said "RAAAAHHH" for RA 😂

but you're right, there's good info in the vid, I've subscribed to the channel.

I think what you’re saying might be the reason I stopped using it. Don’t think I’d call it A320 for dummies though 🙂 I’ve only tried it for one landing and I found that it did increase immersion somewhat. And laughed out loud at the FO’s comment 😅 Perhaps the Fenix team could enhance the sounds on touchdown a bit though.

The video on the new engine behaviour sure was helpful. Just departed from Arvidsjaur after having sat on the ramp for 20 Minutes in freezing rain.

I did my ice shedding procedure prior to take-off and sure enough my left engine had accumulated ice on the fan blades and N1 at first stuck at 40 percent while Engine 2 was fine sitting at 50. Took about 15 seconds until the ice was gone. That would have given me some grief if I hadn't done that before starting the take off roll.

I had the same thing happen a few days, would never have figured out what to do if I hadn't watched that video on the new engines.

Ok, your post there just really caught my attention! Can't help it but really wish to get some feedback here. Is the Fenix in its current state now really better than PMDG for example realistically simulating icing conditions?

Decisions decisions in flight simming. It's not only a question of money, but also time. The time one spends researching topics here. The time one spends actually simming. And then the time one spends doing all the other merde that needs to get done. I was just excited about the 777-300ER, but might instead decide to enter a whole new world I'm unfamiliar with. Airbus (except the A310), which I quite like.

Not sure if it's wise to start such a discussion. It tends to get threads closed very quickly 🙂

Which video is this? Is it the Fenix video demonstrating B2 before it released?

The PMDG has no ice accumulation on the engine parts itself, so there's no need for ice shedding. All the PMDG does IIRC is adding weight when the aircraft frame accumulates ice. I tend to say the Fenix is better now (ice shedding is an important part of real life winter OPS), but to be honest: One would only find out if one willingly neglects anti icing and all that stuff.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

What is the current state of this add-on? I am really tempted.

The add-on is great, when it works. I can't get it to work reliably on my machine. And I tried everything. After a couple of successful flights, I had CTDs on short final on my last 3 flights. It is driving me insane. But others seem to have much less or no problems with it. Then it's a great add-on. Totally worth a purchase. I'm hoping for the next updates...

Thanks so much guys, I appreciate any feedback. I can understand A B C might be better on one side, D E and F on the other. But then someone else might say no no it's everything's better on this side or an that side, and ultimately the thread gets closed down. Never mind. The ice shedding sounds really cool! But I also like to be able to save my flights and tend towards long hauls or even ultra long hauls anyway. On the Airbus side I might wait and see what's happening with MSFS 2024 after a while, maybe Fenix will make an A330 or A350. But from the other thread, the 777-300ER, it might be the first time that I'll actually buy anything right when it comes out, I might not be able to hold off, so it got me a bit excited.
