Maybe you should have renamed your community folder before updating. SU15 updated fine on my computer. No issues at all.

Not sure that was the problem - their messages consistently said there was a fault at their end.

However, at last it is installing as it should have, though after corrupting the Official folder, it is doing a complete reinstall, including all data so it is taking a very long time.

I agree but let's not go down that rabbit-hole again!!

Don't know why this rename your community folder myth whitchcraft is still going on. Makes zero sense but if it gives some people a good feeling. @ozzieblr have you checked your usercfg.opt if it has lost your custom packages folder? I've seen very rare cases when killing the sim in start or update process that may reset settings in the usercfg.opt. Perhaps something to check before doing a full reinstall.

Speeds seem to have collapsed today.  I'm trying to download the rest of the world updates today.  Internet speed checked at 35 mb/s.  MSFS download speed, 0.65 mb/s for the last hour now - not joking!

It’s the new normal because it’s the new normal for people to get so darn bent out of shape of video games. It’s sad really. At some point, there becomes a moral responsibility to remind others that yes, you paid a lot of money for said video game, but at the end of the day, it’s just a video game. 

Asobo only suggests clearing your community folder just in case you have an addon that could cause crashing if it's incompatible with the new update.

It has nothing to do with the actual download process.

It's a reliability thing, they don't want people complaining their sim is crashing and blaming the update for it when it's actually an incompatible addon..
