Sim Update 15 download error - simply inexcusable

Featured Replies

I have been trying repeatedly to get SU15 installed after it locked up and threw an error message at 20% download point.  In addition, even though I am on a very fast network with download speeds RIGHT NOW in the range of 400, the download should not crawl along at speeds below 1mbps ... I am presuming the servers at Microsoft are overloaded.

Surely Microsoft knows how many users are going to be locked out of their simulators and unable to use them until the update is installed - they have their sales records, after all.

Shouldn't they therefore know how much bandwidth is required for the few days immediately following the release of an important and much-delayed update?

Shouldn't they therefore be prepared with sufficient server power and bandwidth to service that need?

Whatever the problem (servers, bandwidth from the servers, or anything else) the largest and most cashed-up technology company in the world should not let down its consumers so dismally, and what is currently happening shows an appalling disrespect to everyone who has invested in its products.  "We are aware of this problem" [Forbidden (403). (Exception from HRESULT 0X80190193)] is simply not good enough - it should never have happened in the first place.

Take a breather, wait until tomorrow and try to update again. I always have a bad luck updating right way. A day or 8 hours later usually work best for me!

Of course - there is no choice, as things are!

Wouldn't it be nice if there was an exit provided from update procedures so that the sim could still be used while waiting for Microsoft to get their act together.

It’s a game, chill out.

Best way on these updates is shelve it for a week, then all is back to normal with Downloads and other networking quirks.

Locate the file it is hanging on by paying close attention to the last file that its downloading. If the installer hangs  delete that file. Reboot and restart the sim. The installer will recover from the last complete file.

It wasn't displaying the filenames, and now the entire contents of both the Official and Community folder are gone.  It will require a complete reinstall of the sim and all the add-ons.

Unimpressed.

Why not wait a few hours and try again? Slow downloads never last more than 12 hrs to a day after a major update is released. I see nothing inexcusable.

When it come out for everyone most were getting nearly 300mbps which was mentioned on other forums and Discord. they had actually opened a new server so people had no trouble. For once it only took myself 5-10mins to download.

Sorry for your crummy experience. It hurts to see all that work go down the digital toilet. The good news it can all be repaired with a few keyboard commands and some patience. Don’t give up on SU 15. It’s really quite an accomplishment.

i don't know what you did, but my update went pretty smooth....started around 4pm EST and download speed was decent.  all updates done with as well as for the marketplace updates for about 1.5 hours.

As always, i rename the community folder for all updates and everything is fine for me every time, no issues at all

I'm giving this update a full week before I get it.

No issues here. Downloaded, installed and was off flying in no time at all. Best part was that I didn't have to re-install all the world updates as has been the case so far. All settings also seem to have been retained.

It's funny how different the process can be for people but then again, there's no real rush if it doesn't work first time. I had pretty much given up expecting to fly the same day there was a sim update. Not this time however.
You'll get it done eventually, mate.

My update went fine about 4 hours ago.  Just re-launched the sim to go check out the new A320 and it's just sitting at "checking for updates" after the splash screen logo/videos.  Guessing the servers are just getting hammered or something again.
