I gave up trying to update. I have much better things to do with my time.

Better things to do with my time as well. I have learned the best approach when an update gets released is to take a flightsim hiatus for at least three days.

Just ran the update. Not in beta, didn't touch community folder, no issues except the settings for FS Realistic for some reason changed, and I had to reload the profile for my aircraft.

Updated last night completed a full flight with beyond ATC no issues download took maybe 10 minutes.

And that is the frustrating thing about updates. Sometimes no problem. Other times, a mess.

Currently trying to download the world updates, but back to 0.65 mb/s again!    Internet speed is fine so it must be the server getting hammered, as I tried through my ISP as well and the speed was still low.

Actually it's important at all, but it still is a common misconception it is. Folks really should read more carefully what MS is stating about this.

Very possible, Bert but at this point in my life I honestly do not have the time to be following every minute detail and post Asobo/MS are publishing. I did enough troubleshooting / tweaking during my FSX and P3D years. I've had enough to last me a lifetime or two.
I mentioned it because it seemed to have worked for me during this SU15 installation unlike the previous updates which caused no small amount of tearing of hair and incoherent and dire mutterings regarding software.

In any case, it's really easy enough to rename one's working Community folder twice, once before the install and then after it (deleting the newly created and blank Community folder).

I quite agree.  Despite the improvements from the initial update process when we were all advised to rename the community folder, I still do it out of an abundance of caution. Things do go wrong and they/re not just MS's problems but could be (and probably are) mine. So its a simple to just rename the folder keep it safe while this update process is underway even if the updating process itself may no longer be an issue. But another reason I do it is that when I restart from an update I get a faster start and a vanilla community folder that I can play around with to explore the update in its 'as downloaded' condition. Then I refill the community folder with all my hangar queens and if there are issues I then know that something in my 'collection' is causing the problem.

No. No, Mav, this is not a good idea.

Sorry Goose, but it's time to buzz the tower!

That's the misunderstanding. We we're advised to rename the community folder when encountering problems after an update. It was never a prerequisite.

Cheers, Bert

Oh. Then I wonder why so many people thought it was?

No issues here. Downloaded, installed and was off flying in no time at all. Best part was that I didn't have to re-install all the world updates as has been the case so far. All settings also seem to have been retained.

I have never had to "reinstall all the world updates" after a system update, including SU15. What is necessary after each SU (if you want your scenery to be up to date) is to go into Content Manager and check for updates on the various world and city updates.

Edited by cobalt

I have no idea why it was happening. After the updates were complete I'd go into the Content Manager and discover that all of the WUs were showing as "Not Installed" or Partially Installed.

Never really figured that one out.

I might be misunderstanding you but, as part of the MSFS Support Forum SU15 Polls and Discussion, the FAQ section contained in the link below says this: (my italics).

Do I need to do anything with add-ons in the community folder?

We highly recommended that you move the content from your community folder to a temporary location on your hard drive before applying the patch and replacing after testing the new version.

(Which is the way I do it.)
