June 7, 20242 yr Yes it would be nice to know which maps are the best in which area e.g. Middle/Southern Europe, USA, South America, China etc.

This is my biggest culprit for this tool, if I am planning my flights, I have no idea what source gives the best results. Is it Google? Is it Bing latest? Is it Apple? Who knows. I then select one and bad luck, the wrong one and the flight is a disappointment. Sure, for the next flight in the same area, I do know it, but for me, flying all over the world is the fun part of the sim and as such, I do not a lot of flights more than one time. Anyway, the possibility of reducing the brightness alone resulted in the fact that I never fly without this tool anymore and I am fine with the risk of having ground textures looking worse than MSFS default. At least, if they look bad with baked in clouds etc, they are not cartoonish green or bright 😉 Firstly I'm in the same boat (plane!) as you regarding which to use, purely because I never really have an idea of where to fly until I'm loaded into the world map. So in essence if I fly in some random remote area of the globe, does it really matter if I have upto date terrain images? I'm not gonna know the difference either way. But then secondly, as you say the Brightness setting is a godsend, so for me it would be cool if this app could also show default terrain as that it is crying out for this setting. I'm not gonna know the difference either way. That’s a good point. I think however that the mod can (hopefully) help with poor quality of terrain textures, which in various places is pretty obvious. E.g. I’ve done a lot of flights in Nepal, Tibet and Bhutan, where textures are generally of poor quality. But even in Europe, textures seems significantly better with latest Bing maps. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 64GB DDR5
June 7, 20242 yr Just took off from Rotterdam to Rome. I used Latest Bing. Between Rotterdam and The Hague I could see some color differences. Where there is no color difference Latest Bing High Lod is superior, but I also saw some color differences flying over Belgium and Germany. So I disabled the mod and am flying now with default Bing and while it maybe less up to date, the overal view matches better… Edited June 7, 20242 yr by GSalden 5950x3d 5.4-5.7 GHz - Asus ROG 870 Crosshair Apex - GSkill Neo 2x 24 Gb 6000 mhz / cas 26 - MSI RTX 5090 Gaming Trio OC - 1x SSD M2 6000 2TB - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 1Tb - Corsair 5400 case - Corsair 360 liquid cooling set - 3x 75’ TCL tv. 13600 6 cores @ 5.1 GHz / 8 cores @ 4.0 GHz (hypterthreading on) - Asus ROG Strix Gaming D - GSkill Trident 4x Gb 3200 MHz cas 15 - Asus TUF RTX 4080 16 Gb - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 2TB - 2x Sata 600 SSD 500 Mb - Corsair D4000 Airflow case - NXT Krajen Z63 AIO liquide cooling - FOV : 200 degrees My flightsim vids : https://www.youtube.com/user/fswidesim/videos?shelf_id=0&sort=dd&view=0
June 7, 20242 yr I could be wrong here but I suspect there is a filter applied to the default ground textures to assist with continuity of colours but one of the caveats are the green roads. As much as I appreciate the extra details with the newer maps, the improved roads is my main reason for using it - I find they ruin the immersion otherwise. Mod has been rock solid for me too to be fair. Ryzen 9800X3D, RTX 5090, 64GB, Win 11. MSFS2020. Moza, MFG, Fulcrum & Virpil controllers. Quest 3 for VR.

Have you tried using GFE's 'Detail' filter along with NCP's desktop color settings delivers great control and outcome on sharp/detail/color/etc and of course works with or without the map mod. In the meantime I've had to give up with this mod, whilst it's very good the FPS loss when looking around is too much, upto 15fps when in VR is way too much to lose, causes stuttering even with High LODs unticked. Default only* causes a loss of 5-6fps doing the same thing so it's not as noticeable, been using the apps Cache but that doesn't make much/if any difference.*this is worse since SU14, part of the performance loss issues that Asobo were made aware of but of course subsequently ignored. It's not like I cant use the map mod, but as I fly VFR looking at the pretty scenery I'm therefore always looking out the windows and quite often using the Drone Came to buzz about, so when the FPS drops as drastically as it can do with this mod it becomes very noticeable. If I were to be an airliner flying at 30k feet then yeah it probably wouldn't be as noticeable, but that's not my thing 🙂 Pico Neo3 Link VR - Windows 11 64bit, Gigabyte Z590 Aorus Elite Mobo, i7-10700KF CPU, Gigabyte RX 9070 XT OC 16gb (AMD GPU), 32gig Corsair 3600mhz RAM, SSD x2 + M.2 SSD 1tb x1 Saitek X45 HOTAS - Saitek Pro Rudder Pedals - Logitech Flight Yoke - Homemade 3 Button & 8-directional Joystick Box, SNES Controller (used as a Button Box - Additional USB Numpad (used as a Button Box)

June 12, 20242 yr Author Any tips to improve performance? I'm using the High LOD setting and it looks very good but the impact is around 15% +/-. over MSFS default. And it's one of those things where I have beau coup main thread and GPU headroom and yet the native rate drop to 39-41fps at KDEN just now. I did the same flight, same time of day, gate etc and we were at 47-53fps at the gate after pushback. I think it's going to be worth the hit but because I don't use DLSS FG as I'm happy to keep native rate locked at 45fps I'm hoping there might be some settings to help mitigate performance impact with this Bing Latest mod.
