June 6, 20241 yr Hi, everybody, I don't know what to do. All day long CHECKING OF UPDATES. I've done a lot of things (change the DNS; end, restore MSFS, reboots, return the simulator to vanilla state... you name it!) But... no way! I'm a bit angry, because I remember "ancient" times with the simulator when I had fewer issues (I'm nearly 75 years old!). So... I'm going to turn off my computer and see tomorrow if the problem continues. Greetings

Greetings I feel you man, I was there 4 days ago, until I reinstalled the sim, it worked for a few hours, then got same "checking for updates" freeze. Did you set this correctly: "Synchronize your Time and Region settings. Press the Start button on the taskbar, type settings, and select Settings. Select Date & Time and toggle the “Set time automatically setting" and “Set time zone automatically” to ON. Click on Synchronize your clock to synchronize your system’s clock with an Internet time server. Then click Region, and double-check that your country or region is correctly set up (for example if you live in Canada, make sure that the region didn’t switch to USA or vice-versa)" I wish I could help, but since I changed DNS servers I had only one freeze. I don't understand why just a limited number of users are having this, maybe location, maybe a windows update. I'm on Windows 11 Pro, Version 23H2, OS Build 22631.3672. Wish you luck John. P.D. Do you use AdGuard ad blocker by chance? Edited June 6, 20241 yr by SN737 SN737

Do you use AdGuard ad blocker by chance? Hi, SN737, No, I didn't synchronize my clock. Next time I'll do what you say. And, yes, I use AdGuard blocker. But this morning (I live in Valencia, Spain) I could finally fly! I suppose it's something about the MSFS servers, and it's not our fault at all. Thank you!

In adguard settings, there's a DNS protection tab, then at right pane, adguard DNS, there i've selected the adguard DNS (Recommended DNS Providers), which has given me the best "anti-freeze checking for updates" solution. Glad you could start the sim now, it for sure has to do with microsoft's servers, but it's limited to certain region. SN737
June 7, 20241 yr There is another thread on this topic, tried to post link, but I couldn't " Sim Hangs at checking for updates" Pointing to MAP enhancement as possible problem> Edited June 7, 20241 yr by Bobsk8
June 7, 20241 yr I am downloading reinstalling now, I couldn´t by the checking updates loop this morning, I did many things and didn´t work, I went out a pair of hours with the router off, and now quickly the Sim changed from checking to the option to download. Server side yes probably this morning in Europe.

Nop, I uninstalled the Sim for a fresh reinstall and deleted Community, and now it is downloading very fast, the Sim checked very fast the updates without the freeze in the "checking". Thanks for trying to help, all solved already itself. I have to say that this time, is the fastest time ever that the Sim is downloading, a server upgrade or not busy?, around 35 min 65Gb of 134,28Gb. Edited June 7, 20241 yr by peloto
June 8, 20241 yr It might be irrelevant, but both my brother in law and I have had this a few times since SU15. In both our cases, booting up the Xbox app first (not doing anything with it - just booting it up and signing in) and then leaving that open while booting up MSFS has cleared it each time. Why it might be relevant is that in the earlier days of MSFS this used to happen quite a bit and this was a 'standard practice' to get it sorted. My understanding is that the user id is actually held in the X-box app, not MSFS itself. Anyway, for the sake of a click on the mouse, it's worth a try. June 8, 20241 yr I have this too lately. The sim doesn't freeze, but just not go past update check. Killing the process and starting again helps. Guess it's a server issue in general. (still, if you have map enhancements installed - you should check if everything is configured accordingly)
June 8, 20241 yr I do have another strange phenomenon... Sometimes in the Main menu MFS closes without notice and OFC when I restart it asks if it should be Run in safe or normal mode... Never had that... Other than that it is PERFECT, even more when flying the FBW 32N 😁 Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
June 8, 20241 yr When I've had this issue, I've logged out of Xbox app, then logged back in. And it worked. AMD Ryzen R9 9950X3D | Asus Astral RTX 5080 OC | 32 GB DDR5 6000 CL30 | 3440x1440 G-Sync | Logitech Pro Throttles Rudder Yoke Panels | Thrustmaster T.16000M FCS | TrackIR 5 | Oculus Rift S

June 8, 20241 yr The long loading/checking I had too but just let it sit and do its wizardry and - boom - at some but it went on. No idea though how long it actually took. Could have been 30min or longer Phil Leaven i5 10600KF, 32 GB 3200 RAM, ASUS 4070 12GB EVO, Asus ROG Z490-H, 2 WD Black NVME for each Win11 (500GB) and MSFS (1TB), Rolling Cache 16GB, Photogrammetry always OFF, Live Weather and Live Traffic always ON, Res 2560x1440 on 27"
June 8, 20241 yr This issue, stuck on Checking for Updates, as well as continuous issues w/ the Google/Bing map mode, all resolved out of the blue yesterday after a week of headaches. I'm guessing it was all "server side". One has to be careful chasing goblins when so much depends on remote source instead of local machine.
