@Rogen that was a very nice video, but I wonder how much difference Lossless Scaling makes when flying a PMDG or FSLabs into say KLAX?

Patco Lch, I can tell you that there is no much of a difference on higher level detailed scenery. I use the program and lately I experience crashes on Australia especially Sydney area, which I have covered with ORBX Australia v2, City Scene Sydney, South Australia scenery pack from ORBX and FlyTampa Sydney v2. Also I tested with Vertx Diamond DA-62 on ORBX True Earth Great Britain North. On cruise however the performance is better. I am sure you use tweaks. I am on i9 13900KF processor and RTX 4090, which is quite an rig, so to me is fine performance even on 16 fps. I mean, the sim is smooth even on low fps.

Essentually it'll function much the same.

It's like honey... it's there in the hive but you've gotta get past the bees, meaning you've gotta have realistic hardware expectations for the honey of vsync'd flying. If your PMDG or FSLabs flying into KLAX can only make 15 fps without frame generation, then that's the frame rate you'd be looking at locking for frame generation application.

For example my sim can manage ~20 fps (without frame gen) at Orbx's YBBN v2, and it can maintain 20 fps wherever in or over the airport I happen to be, therefore I can lock the frame rate @ 20 fps (I'm using Nvidia Control Panel for the locking), apply LS frame generation X3 and bring the frame rate up to 60 to vsync with the monitor's 60 Hz and I have the honey of smooth vsync'd flying.

As long as you can define a locked frame rate for P3D that can be maintained (without frame generation) and is devsable into the monitor mode's hertz rate by either 2 or 3, things will be fine.

I could also lock at 15 fps use X2 and the 1/2 vsync option to fly at a 30Hz vsync, actually given I have 30Hz capable monitors I don't need to use the 1/2 vysnc option in reality.

Alternatively for the most part I can reach 30 fps for most of the world, so I could lock at 30 fps and use X2 for a 60 Hz vsync.

There are many config options available just like there is a coloured M&M for just about every like.

Plus you could always just turn vsync off, won't be as smooth though.

There's plenty of vids showing how lossess scaling's frame generation works on large airliners and framerate sucking airports, mostly MSFS vids, however given LS functions outside of the sim and can be used for just about any application and GFX card, it's equally applicable to P3D, and I find it a very useful piece of software for less than the price of a lunch.

Cheers 🙂

Well I have been stupid enough to buy it without being aware that it doesn't work in VR. So this software is totally useless for me in my various flight simulators 😞

I will try it with Star Citizen, which is not VR-enabled yet. Maybe it can be useful for that one. Ah well, in any case, I haven't lost much money 🙂

@Rogen thank you. I bought Lossless Scaling today on sale for five USD and change. Looking forward to seeing what I can do.

Hope LS works out well for you and yeah it's even cheaper now @ 20% off till the 11th of July. 🙂

Cheers

Bummer... At least it works with practically any game/application and is cheap and affordable, wayyy cheaper than a 4090 - not that a 4090 wouldn't be great to have 😃

Cheers

Exactly the same here. 😒 I fly only VR, so...  At least it was cheap.

Great to have for the 18 months before the RTX5080 Super beats it 😃 And so it goes on...

I bought it yesterday and followed your instructions, 15 fps set in RTSS, unlimited in P3D, half refresh rate in RTSS. (Trying to get a fluid 30fps on a 60 monitor).

P3d shows 15 without FG, when I start FG, P3d stays at 15.

What am I doing wrong?

So first thing when troubleshooting - reduce the variables to the minimum.

I did trial the use of RTSS to manage the frame rate lock, however I wasn't able to get it to work reliably - or at all really - perhaps it's because I use Reshade's dlls as well.

Check out my video, it shows the Lossless Scaling UI config options available, plus the options have popup help dialogs.

Anyway assuming RTSS is working Ok for yourself, don't using half refresh rate in RTSS, RTSS should allow the maximum Hz of the monitor e.g. the 60 Hz..

  • Use the 2X option in FG
  • Use the half refresh rate option in FG.

Then the X2 option doubles the 15 to 30 and the FG 1/2 half vsync does does the rest.

If you're having no luck with RTSS... don't use it, make sure RTSS is off, instead lock the frate rate in sim to 15 fps (for testing purposes).

  • Use the 2X option in FG
  • Use the half refresh rate option in FG.

Assuming a test is Ok at this point, lock the frame rate in the NVida inspector and use unlimited in sim.

Cheers

Using the in-sim or RTSS FPS counter. These will show the native FPS. For seeing the actual FPS, you need to enable the "See FPS" (or something like that) in LSFG.

Yes, I found that. I just need to experiment a bit to see what effect everything has. My main problem is that when activated, my second screen is un-clickable, even with the multi- screen option ticked.

I have managed to get it to work (sort of). But it is messing up so many things, like mouse control, task bar and also blocking access to 2nd screen apps,.that it is not worth it.

Yes, mouse control is word-not-allowed with LSFG. That's the only big downside I've found.

Major no-no for many, I am sure.
