I figured out my RTSS was outdated, and that's why I couldn't see NVIDIA reflex as an option. I updated RTSS and gave it a try with the worst FPS hogs known to P3D mankind: FSHud (set to 50 active+50 parked) and the FSL A320 departing from KJFK 31L, for doing a flight pattern (I use AFCADs; I seldom buy airports). With 30 FPS and 2xFG, I got some stutters. With 20 FPS and 3xFG (as @Ray Proudfoot did), Perfection 😁. And that was using the P3D v5 settings I had set aside for VFR (max scenery, autogen and road lights, and LOD radius and autogen distance set to high)! I didn't even see the artifacts I used to get with front-edge sync and 2xFG.

I shut FSHud down and added 60% AIG traffic (500 airlines, BGL based): 256 aircraft in the area, and even more smoothness. Definitely, those $3.50+VAT I paid for LS did more for the sim than the $600 I paid for my 3060Ti here in Argentina.

Will this help regarding vram usage?

Sadly not, they are completely unrelated. Your best bet is reducing texture size. 2048x2048 are good enough for P3D, not so for MSFS.

I am happy that it worked for you. For me, it completely messes up my second monitor. I am unable to use my mouse to click on anything including the taskbar on my primary display.

Good job it was not too pricey. Just the cost of an OAP car valet!

A pie and a coke for myself 🙂

Lossless Scallng was recently updated, if you've not updated the changes might help.

Also Windows has it's own issues with loss of focus (happens for myself and prior to the us of LS) and I use the Windows key to point focus to the taskbar then click on the P3D window to bring back focus to P3D.

Notes below are from Steam.

This version aims to improve smoothness, framerate stability and latency for a wide range of GPUs.

  • LSFG 2.2 updates the UI detection part by reducing the level of over-detection, which eliminates some artifacts caused by UI detection and has a positive effect on the overall smoothness of the image.
  • Cursor rendering at the target framerate. -> this is a big change for myself and makes for very smooth curser operations.
  • Return to the previous behavior when rendering over refresh rate is allowed.
  • The new "Max Frame Latency" option acts as a balance between latency and performance. There is no best value, as all systems are different. Most likely, the optimal value will be 1 for Nvidia GPUs and 3 for AMD. It should be at least 2 (3 for AMD) if you want LS to be able to render over refresh rate.
  • Merged the "Vsync" and "Allow tearing" options into one menu, where "Default" means that both of them are disabled.
  • Improved Freesync support (works only on AMD GPUs).
  • Lithuanian and Vietnamese localizations added.

Previous version is available in Steam betas.

Cheers

I have persevered and the new version seems to help a bit.

I can now get 2 screens to work properly and your Windows key tip helped a lot.

I still do not get any increase in FPS, though. The counter says 20/20 (60 hz monitor, half scan rate in RTSS and x2 in Lossless. FPS set to 20).

If I read other posts correctly, it should say 20/60?

I don't see any improvement in the sim at all..

Something is still not right, obviously.

Change RTSS to set fps to 20. Then set x3 in Lossless. 👍

Ray,

Thanks for the help.

After experimenting a bit, I have set fps to 20 in RTSS and I am now showing 20/60 in P3D.

I will try a proper flight later to see what difference it really makes.

One quick question : what do you set Sync mode to in Lossless? I have it on Plain Vsync.

It’s a sunny warm day here so computers are off. Can’t remember. Try tinkering if you’re not happy but if you’re getting 60 I can’t see there being anything majorly wrong.

Plain Vsync is fine, Lossless Scaling also provides for Off, Default, Vsync and 1/2, 1/3 and 1/4 vsyncs for those with high Hz monitors

Just don't go setting vsync in anything else outside of the sim, e.g. leave RTSS @ just scanline sync.

As for vsync in the sim itself... I have it disabled, that said I've been reading some of the notes on P3D's v5 vsync ops where there are differences in the way the sim functions outside of just vsync being on/off, which means performance may (or may not) be better with vsync enabled regardless of the actual in sim frame rate. It would be something you'd have to experiment with yourself.

For tuning I just pick a performance heavy senario and test to see the output of the various settings, while making a text doc of the whats and whys of what works best for my own install.

I also recommend running a GPU monitor to get an idea of the sort of load being applied by various settings, as typically once your GPU maxes out - the frame rate will drop and you'll loose vsync.

Some heavy GPU hitters are high antialisasing, casting of vegetation shadows, volumetric clouds (high is reasonable, ultra is a killer), also high autogen distance will place more load on everything overall because there is more of everything to process. It's all about balance and what's achievable from your hardware.

Lossless Scaling's frame generator has certainly given a new lease of life on my own installs, I mean, I could get up to 60 fps prior to LS, but only in quite restrictive settings and areas with little to no autogen, now any area is 60 fps capable.

Cheers

I left it to default. Also in NCP. In-sim, I have it disabled, but VRR on.

I have now tried just about every option. I am flying a non-challenging route with no heavy scenery hits. With the recommended settings, the frame counter shows a max. of 60, which seems to be correct. However, there is absolutely no improvement in actual FPS. In fact, without Lossless I am getting about 32fps, with Lossless it is around 27fps and the Sim. seems to be not quite as fluid.. It looks as if I am one of the unlucky guys whose system is not compatible. GPU load is averaging 87%.

I will complete the flight ( a 6 hour one) and see how it progresses.
