I figured out my RTSS was outdated, and that's why I couldn't see NVIDIA reflex as an option. I updated RTSS and gave it a try with the worst FPS hogs known to P3D mankind: FSHud (set to 50 active+50

Have a look at this.

Personally, this just isn't something I think I need, and I'm betting that many others don't either.  I'm always skeptical of these "get better performance with this software" schemes.  It might help if you have a lower end GPU, but even then you can't get something for nothing with computer hardware so there must be a trade-off by using this technique - using more GPU resources perhaps?.  Maybe I'm wrong and it is magic.

<snip>

Dave

It is *MAGIC*... and it does do what it says it will do.

It's similar to a TV's 24p to 60p where 23.976/24 fps movies are upped to 50 or 60 fps. Previously this sort of function was available only on 4000 series NVidia cards where the application was also built to support said functionality.

And I've found using the app reduces the GPU use for a given config, which in turn allows a person to ramp up their GFX settings for higher fidelity and thus "tune" to use their hardware to their best advantage.

Out of all the various "get better performance with this software" schemes, this one does actually work and would cost lunch money to trial.

For the cost of a 4090 @ ~$3499 in Australia you could purchase LS ~341.37 times or over a year of Mon~Fri lunches.

Wayyy cheaper than the latest GPU card, not that having the latest and greatest isn't the ideal, but affordability does come into play.

Yes there is some artifacting so it's not 100% perfect, but I find the cost vs. benefits to be worthwhile.

Cheers 🙂

This may convince me to keep P3D on my system after MSFS2024 rolls around.  With the the absence of FG support for P3D it was looking like the end of the road but maybe not so now.

I presently don't even have P3dv5 installed - quited buying those monthly or 6 month Professional licenses and am now 100% MSFS after a nice visit to AEROFLY FS 4, but having seen all of the "gossip" around this new kid in town I thought to myself that maybe I should give it a go?

Idea would be to reduce those irritating high temperatures and spinning fans inside my desktop case that trigger my-  "you're spending way too much energy just to play a game !!!" - and try the following, since apparently P3D doesn't suffer from the impact in flight dynamics cycle caused by 20 FPS as X-Plane does:

1) Set P3D to run at 20 FPS..: How to, given my monitor is a vanilla Hp 60Hz refresh rate 22" monitor(only) ?

1.1) Set VSync in game and use NCP, NVI or Riva Tunner to limit FPS to 20 or...

1.2) Forget VSync in game and limit FPS in game to 20 FPS or...

1.3) Set VSync in game and limit FPS in game to 20 FPS?

2) Use a factor of 3x in Lossless

This would give me 20/ 60 I guess, and I would be at  a smooth 60 FPS without hammering the CPU that much? Am I right?

In my desktop, for both FSX and P3D, I set the FPS to unlimited, no in-sim VSync or TB, and set 20 FPS in RTSS.

In my laptop, RTSS is not that reliable, so I simply locked frames to 20 in FSX. I don't remember what FFTF did I use.

@Rogen, in your case, did you use any FFTF?

@ G-RFRY  Raymond , I installed the Nvidia app , selected graphics>Program Settings >Add and added Prepar3d.exe (V6) and get a Msg "Program doesn't support optimization" , are your pics P3D??

Can you help...

Thank you  Jorge

I installed that program. It really does help the performance, I am glad for this subject. It's like optical flow for the sim, it really does change things.

Yes I do, I did adjust both FFTF and Traffic limits in FSUIPC to cater for running the actual sim at a lower frame rate - you know prior to FG kicking in.

Hey Peeps,

Managed to resolve my inablity to record video while running lossless scaling.

And have created the below video which includes the functions of the LS UI.

Best viewed in the rez of 1440P.

@Rogen that was a very nice video, but I wonder how much difference Lossless Scaling makes when flying a PMDG or FSLabs into say KLAX?
