Beyond ATC release Traffic alpha for Supporters

Featured Replies

Okay I bought the Supporters version. Trying to run, and I get a message stating that it cannot connect to the update server. Overloaded would be my guess.

Just tried my first flight with it.. overall okay.... Adds some really cool visuals while taxiing.. But...

I think it's only activating traffic at your arrival and departure airport. I thought I remembered the dev talk about how you could follow planes and watch them go to, and come from other airports..

I didn't notice any enroute aircraft, although I did a shorter flight and that could be on me.

Next flight I tried to follow 2 planes with drone. Eventually they just went in a straight line indefinitely and overflew whatever their destination was. Seemed a bit.. I dunno.. underwhelming.

Let's just say they weren't kidding when they said it was buggy. Will try again after a few updates.

New info from Devs on Discord

FYI we are disabling traffic and reverting to the previous version pre-traffic to negate the server load while we work on spinning up a couple more servers. This will be temporary.

Enroute traffic hasn't been enabled yet. Only traffic at your departure and arrival airports is working.

This program can control all the AI in the world, but if  they can't straighten out the vectoring on visual approaches, it is garbage.  I just tried again, following the vectors for a visual approach to KMCI, runway 1, and they gave me a 90 degree intercept angle  2 1/2 miles from the runway threshold. I made the landing, but I had to fly the A 320 like it was a Pitts Special. What a joke.  😉

There's so much traffic on traffic (he he) in their Discord that I missed this. Is that official?

Initially I was very excited and impressed with BATC but lately I’ve become a bit more sceptical and worried if they bit off more than they can chew.

I’m aware it’s Early Access but they stopped issuing any patches over a month ago to “focus on traffic”. Now they released it to supporters in a seemingly shambolic rollout where they had to disable it only a few hours after going live due server issues.

Meanwhile all the issues and frustrations with the regular version remain (awful vectoring, unable to cross the Atlantic without things going haywire, some weird instructions at times, response times feel like they’re getting longer, ATC doesn’t even understand auto-respond at times, no shortcuts in transitions, no in-sim panel, clunky gate assignment, airport profiles are locked and can’t be customised…). From what I read about traffic it’s extremely basic too - no separation etc…

I still think BATC has tremendous potential but not sure where it’s all headed and instead of seeing progress to build on the initial release momentum it’s failing to live up to its promises and hype and in some cases actually seems to be going backwards.

I tried FSHud about a year ago and really didn’t like it so opted for a refund. Will keep a close eye on their v2 release and whether it might be something to reconsider.

It's an Alpha version.

I don't know what their dev head count is, but it sounds like 2. If they hired two more to focus on the more fundamental functionality of the ATC to make gains in the promised functionality, that'd be nice, but judging by the fact that their customers are extremely patient with them and are not raising hell, I anticipate this is unlikely to happen.

If you read the patch notes in the first post, they do have separation it's just current disabled while they improve it.

I’m confused - I can’t have something when at the same time it’s disabled and not there?

It may be that they plan on adding it in the future but given that their entire focus has been on getting traffic out it doesn’t sound like much is actually happening with the current release other than it moving traffic around like PSXT already does whilst speaking to it but unaware of the user and not actually controlling the environment as a whole - which they said was the whole point of having controlled traffic in the first place a while ago.
