Alternatives to PMDG 73x?

Featured Replies

Suggestion: Fly the Bredok 737 for a bit and then come back to reevaluate your stance on the PMDG 737.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

  • The Maddog MD-80 is every bit (or more) systems satisfactory as the PMDG.  Just saying.

5. Either they have no clue why the 737's are locking up (right-turned wheel) and systems freeze in flight (usually on descent)....or it's an interference with their anti-you-know-what system.  If it's the latter, don't hold you breath for a solution.  Maybe with MSFS 2024.

I mean it sounds like a WASM crash, and there are plenty of other aircraft out there with issues like this. The ini A300 will still occasionally just hit a brick wall and drop out of the sky if its WASM module crashes.

That would require wasting money on absolute garbage.

Sometimes you need to try something else to be able to appreciate what you already have 😉

Pretty sure I have had that in the TFDi as well, although in that case it did at least start responding again (eventually).

I do wonder if the ultimate fix for it is in the hands of PMDG OR MS/Asobo, since it seems to stem from SU15.

Even with it's (current) issues, the PMDG has been great value for money for me, not quite my most flown payware, but very close.

these annoyances have me willing to look at alternatives.

Seems obvious, when the IFly Max is coming soon with better features.

Yep happened once in the MD11 for me too, it was dramatic lol

It's quite a thing when it really, fully dies.

I find it quite interesting to see how much hype the 737 from Ifly is getting. All we’ve seen are many exterior photos, some lights, some sounds, and that’s it—there’s nothing about the systems. People hear “cabin announcement” and see a nicely modeled cabin, which leads to the belief that PMDG is dead and that this is the best add-on ever. This seems a bit odd to me. All I see is a nice model, some nice-to-have features, a poorly laid-out EFB, and some odd geometric issues in the cockpit. Don’t get me wrong; I want the Ifly Max to succeed as well, but at the moment, we can’t compare it to PMDG since we haven’t seen any details about the systems, which are far more important than some "kiddy features."

well it's not really as hard to see as you think.  The iFly had a reputation for good systems in the p3d days on the NG.  It's not hard to imagine at all, the same will be true with this release.

5800X3D, 4090FE, 64GB DDR4 3600C16, Gigabyte X570S MB, EVO 970 M.2's, Alienware 3821DW  and 2  22" monitors, Corsair RM1000x PSU,  360MM MSI MEG, MFG Crosswind, T16000M Stick, Boeing TCA Yoke/Throttle, Skalarki MCDU and FCU, Logitech Radio Panel/Switch Panel, Spad.Next

I had all of them. The 747 was well behind the PMDG 747, as was the NG, and the Max was just a reskinned NG. So the fact that they don’t show any systems worries me a bit. Maybe they’re not that good, or the release is still months away

what systems are missing on their iFly NG vs the PMDG NG?

The WASM bug is annoying. Random, even. call me crazy but this sounds a lot more of an issue with self loading cargo than just pmdg

I would love a definitive answer for this. I can't find a manual to read with info. I'm THIS close to buying it for P3d as I have the PMDG already for MSFS. For familiarity I'd just buy the PMDG 737 if I could but they won't take my money of course. The only thing I read somewhere was that the PACK panel was auto set by the fmc? As in you can't set the cruise altitude yourself, I'm used to following the FCOM from high altitude fields.

I think I'm inching ever closer to that MADDOG tbh :D

No, they're not.

It's not PMDG's responsibility to make their aircraft work with a third-party add-on that layers on top of it.

If SLC doesn't work with one of the most popular aircraft on the market, it's indeed a problem on SLC's side.
