September 22, 20241 yr I'm a little sceptical that I would see any tangible improvement upgrading from an RTX 3090 to a 4080, but happy to be proved wrong by hearing from someone with experience of such an upgrade. September 22, 20241 yr I'm happy enough with my 3090 to wait until the 5090 now. I've been skipping every other generation for about 25 years. 9950X3D - X870E Aorus Master- TUF 5090 OC - 64GB DDR5 - 1500W HXi - Titan 360 RX LCD - 9100 Pro x 2 - LG 45GX950A - HOTAS Warthog with Ava Base
September 22, 20241 yr The RTX 5000 series is in the starting blocks, so if you are in the market for a 4080 or higher I would hold off on buying one right now.

I was recently forced to build a new system as my previous system failed. I had a healthy RTX 3080 to move forward but I wanted something more current with MSFS 2024 approaching. Based on reasonable affordability I chose an RTX 4080 Super at about $1,100 USD. I am very happy with it but with the 4080 super and an AMD RZ7 7800X3D, and must mention my faithful use of the AutoFPS app, I see some measurable difference with in-sim performance "stats", but without much real perceivable difference with in-sim user experience. The increase in stats does not really blow me away. If I sense an improvement in user experience it is perhaps in the vicinity of multiple addons of really high detailed sceneries, and my sim travels do not often frequent those areas. Again I attribute a good deal of my user experience to AutoFPS. I do feel I am comfortably positioned for MSFS 2024. By the way, the hardware forum would have been a much better place for your post 😉 Cheers, Bert AMD Ryzen 5900X, 32 GB RAM, RTX 3080 Ti, Windows 11 Home 64 bit, MSFS 2024

September 22, 20241 yr The difference though is frame generation.... With AI you can easily get into the triple digit frames when using a powerful 40xx card. Then again if you're only at like 1080p I wouldn't upgrade. Additionally I would wait until the new 50xx cards arrive. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

September 22, 20241 yr As a rule of thumb (well, my rule of thumb) always go ahead two generations of Nvidia cards to see a difference that justifies the upgrade cost. I've just gone from a 2070 super to a 470ti super. Very pleased.

Having said that, according to the video you've linked to in your post, the 4080 gives about a 16% increase over the 3090, which to be fair, is pretty good. It's whether I can justify the cost. September 22, 20241 yr Frame generation hasn't been exclusive to a 4000series Nvidia card in some time. In my case I was doing frame generation with my 4KTV before the 4000 series was even released. Not my link! For what it's worth, I think the video underlines my point. A 3090 is still an incredibly capable card. A 16% increase is frankly not very noticeable. However, the hit on the wallet would be very noticeable!
September 23, 20241 yr Would a 4080 make that much of a difference, doesn't the 4080 only have 12 Gb of VRAM? \Robert Hamlich/
