I doubt it’ll be here before then so the only way to get a refresh will mean going back and flying it in P3D, if I decide to do a check ride and re validate it You prepare for a type rating check ride with P3D/MSFS???? October 5, 20241 yr Yep, the traditional method of preparation was to sit in a chair and play out the manoeuvres in your head, so called “armchair flying” Believe me an accurate simulation and a VR headset is off the scale in comparison. 787 captain. October 5, 20241 yr Commercial Member Very interesting, the shot through the cockpit windows from 3dsMax shows they're accurately representing N747NA (an airframe I'm quite familiar with, which has many 'one off' modifications to the panels and surrounds). So this looks like a 747SP of sorts! Exciting!
October 5, 20241 yr Omg... it's the very first 747 ever built- 747-121 / N7470 "City of Everett". Being on display in the Museum of Flight, it would lend itself beautifully for the laser scanning that was mentioned. https://www.museumofflight.org/exhibits-and-events/aircraft/boeing-747-121 Edited October 5, 20241 yr by skully
October 5, 20241 yr Who was it back in the day that did a phenomenal classic 747? May have been FS9? Gosh, I can remember so many details about that plane but not the developer? Anyone remember? Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk

You just shouldn't try to train yourself on the performance and the way the aircraft handle in the sim. But the systems are true to the real world, so there is no reason to not use the sim as a training tool.

October 6, 20241 yr Seemingly confirmed the secret project is a 747-100? https://forum.pmdg.com/forum/main-forum/general-discussion-news-and-announcements/330077-04oct24-so-what-is-going-at-pmdg/page3#post330279
October 6, 20241 yr Commercial Member I still have my RFP 747 case and user manual, time to dig that one out 🤣
October 6, 20241 yr Looks like the aircraft manufacturer they were referring to is Boeing. “Once we finish what we are doing for Boeing, our 737 team will be able to get back to our product retail product line” Edited October 6, 20241 yr by Wise87 Dan i9-13900K / Asus Maximus Hero Z790 / RTX 4090 FE / G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB 64 GB DDR5-6400 CL32 / Artic Liquid Freezer II 360 / Samsung 980 PRO SSD 1TB PCIe NVMe M.2 / Samsung 980 PRO SSD 2TB PCIe NVMe M.2 / Samsung 970 EVO Plus SSD 2TB PCIe NVMe M.2 / EVGA 1000W G3, 80+ Gold / Phanteks Eclipse P600S ATX Mid Tower / Arctic P14 PWM Case Fans / LG C2 42 Inch Class 4K OLED TV/Monitor / Windows 11 Pro / 1Ghz AT&T Fiber

The systems are CLOSE but they certainly aren't "true", especially as you get into the abnormal realm. Anyone who's conducted much training in level D sims is familiar with occasionally having to use a workaround to keep the scenario realistic for the crew, because of a "sim-ism" that would deviate in small ways from the real airplane. It doesn't happen too often in that world, but if you can't trust a multi-million dollar certified device to be perfectly "true" to the real world, sincere caution is needed in trusting a sub-$100 piece of entertainment software. I'm not saying you can't learn from desktop sims, and for practicing flows and normal procedures they're good. But, especially if someone is new to the plane and learning it in an initial qual course (or refreshing knowledge they've forgotten and are re-learning), there is a genuine threat of negative training. A person needs to know the plane well enough to know if what they're seeing is correct. Andrew Crowley

I love the steam gauge airliner, but in true flightsim community fashion; Why not go for the 747-200? even though the -100 is the OG, there were way more -200's flying around.
