  • Here’s my impressions from the alpha. It’s basically just things that struck me and not a balanced review. Overall, I’m very impressed. Unfortunately, I only had 1-2 hours to test it, so the following

Fully agree with the many improvements discussed here; I don't want to leave the alpha now 🥲. One new feature that I haven't heard much about is the new soft-body physics capability. The tagged pitot cover looked amazing waving in the wind. I'm very excited to see what developers will do with access to this. I imagine you could have cables swinging when a jetway is attaching to the aircraft or have a GPU cable slither across the ground as its being moved to the connection point (in addition to more serious uses, especially in mission scenarios).

It's one of the coolest new features of this sim in my opinion! Have you seen this Hot Air Balloon demo from FSExpo 2023? https://youtu.be/VPhScg_FINE?si=pt0ShDGYXeC8a9y8&t=800

One thing I noticed during alpha testing, turning off photogrammetry is instant now, there's no hanging on the screen while it unloads it.

Now if you're in a photogrammetry area it won't vanish right away you need to fly around a bit for it to unload.

I think default fps was 30. Can't remember if it was on by default though. During the time with the alpha I set TLOD to 400 and had fps higher than 30 (even over Manhattan), so I guess it didn't kick in.

As far I understand its workings, it is not a limiter, and in your example it will kick in if your setup cannot achieve 30fps and dynamically reduce some settings in order to achieve the 30fps.

That video was really cool to watch.

One thing I did notice. When you are doing the missions after you get your CPL, you are locked into the sims ATC.  Won't be able to use something like FSHud or P2ATC for those. I wonder how that will play out when you are handling VIP and passenger flights?  I was hoping it would be a case of monitoring your flight (after you planned it out) and then giving you a score. Which would allow us to use our ATC program of choice.

Any thoughts on this?

You know what's really interesting, is that in most the comparison videos out now, it shows the true potential of MSFS2024, In all the alpha tech videos, were missing layers of data, grass, procedural layers, and tons of other features. Even with the videos of the Grand Canyon, that area is still missing layers of data... now imagine the final product.

Will be interesting to compare the release with the tech alpha when we get our hands on it. It's given me a LOT to look forward to tbh.

And the roads aren't green anymore!

I only got a few hours to test the alpha, but I just re-watched a video I made. I was too busy to fully reflect on things at the time. Overall I’m very impressed!

  • Excellent performance!
  • Beautiful lighting and sky
  • FAST loading times
  • Gorgeous looking trees
  • Realistic looking ocean reacting to weather
  • Interesting how the 172 reacted to winds 20kts gusting to 30…
  • …it seemed to behave realistically in “normal” weather though
  • Improved ground physics
  • Walkaround mode

Ah yes, almost forgot. Pebbles!

Downloaded and installed, set up accessibility settings and avatar etc. go to start a flight and CTD everytime.

Updating nvidis drivers as we speak, hopefully thats all it is.

Did updating the Nvidia drivers resolve the issue for you? I know the alpha is over, but mine would CTD or freeze anywhere from the loading screen to configuring the controls, to just after clicking "Fly Now". Twice, I managed to get into the air for about one minute before a CTD. I did not have time to try updating my Nvidia drivers before the alpha closed, so I wonder if my older 536.23 drivers may have caused the issue. Not being able to use the alpha makes me nervous about purchasing the release candidate when it comes out.
