First Flight!  this will be a very long night.  VR is not yet implemented.

I found only one problem with this Alpha preview: it will end Monday October 14, 7 a.m. GMT 🤣

can't get enough of the new clouds and atmospheric lighting. no other sky/weather/cloud tools needed for me:

@turboxmax since you are a real life pilot, how is the new flight model and new ground handling?

  • Here’s my impressions from the alpha. It’s basically just things that struck me and not a balanced review. Overall, I’m very impressed. Unfortunately, I only had 1-2 hours to test it, so the following

Those who managed to install the Alpha, do you have the Store or the Steam version?

the test is only on the MS Store. You don't need to own 2024 to get in.

Same here I got email to download but it’s not there

When you get a chance to try it, let us know about the new flight model amd ground handling, since you are a real life pilot. Thanks!

Why isn't my opinion valid? I have countless hours in a 2018 VW Golf Sportwagen.

The new lighting and clouds are 🤩, and the 172 finally feels like it has weight.

Any real life pilot opinions are valid. I know TurboMax and sd_flyer are real life pilots.

You know I was kidding, right? A VW Sportwagen is a car...

The aircraft included appear to be completely remodelled

they actually modelled the refueling nozzle on the F-18 if you clip the camera inside, but the switch to extend it is inop

Ok, the ship traffic is either not properly modelled for the alpha (seems likely) or they still need to do some work. I'm counting at least 21 massive cruise ships in Sydney Harbour, and quite a few are spinning around and running into buildings 🤣

yeah none of the new AI models are in, for ships or aircraft. There seems to be a generic glider model now though.

also Milford Sound is still covered in snow.

FYI the community folder does work, it's in

Ok so lets talk...

First impressions are (yes aware its an old build and tech alpha):

Pros:

  • Lighting looks much better and so do the clouds
  • The feeling and flying of the aircraft are probably the BEST I have felt, you can feel the wind the air the aircraft have weight.
  • Ground handling is extremely well done, now the aircraft feel like they are heavy, like they have some weight on the ground, and actions have consequences, if you do not apply correct aileron or rudder inputs into the wind, it will lift up your wing.
  • Rain effects and atmosphere look much much better
  • Ground textures and markings etc look much higher resolution ( cant wait for access to the SDK to see what possibilities are there, it looks like a game changer)
  • Tree variety, not only will this be a great high tubeliner sim, but probably one of the best low GA flying one too.

Cons:

  • Ship traffic was a mess around Sydney Harbor
  • Night lighting, while better than before, is still a mess. It looks great in certain conditions (weather etc) and situations, but as you get higher looks terrible.
  • Night lighting again, you can see the stars and milkyway above Sydney with extreme light pollution
  • Grass was missing and the ground didnt get much better as I got close to it? I'm talking just random bush areas seemed to have same quality of textures as 2020, didnt see this 4000x procedural texture feature (might be because of the alpha build not included)
  • Aircraft nav lights look bad, lighting look bad, I think there was another person who commented and it looked pretty bad reflecting onto the ground.
  • Runway and airport lighting is pretty bad too

As you can see, first three are good, but last shot looks bad. spacer.png

Will try better tomorrow, it's already almost 5 in the morning where i live... But someone of you has been able to run it with 3 monitors? If I use one or 2 monitors it runs great, as soon as I enable the 3rd... crash after a few seconds.

Oh boy check back later.

The 172 feels fantastic.
