FBW A380 is out!

Featured Replies

Another thing that was odd.

And I may be wrong on this one, but I suspect that players with the 8K texture variant, cannot see players with the 4K texture variant, or vice versa. I say this because I saw a gamertag with the A388 designation taxiing and the AC was invisible. I switched to the 4K variant, and more A380s became visible. Like I said I may be wrong, just putting it out there.

  • I would say with a high margin of safety that this is the biggest community achievement in the history of Flight Simulation as a whole, and not even by a small margin.

  • click spot to disable the cabin. I found it helped a bit with VRAM performance

  • So far I am mind blown. It seems to be much better than I've expected. I still need to do a full flight on it, but just playing a bit with the avionics I can see that a lot of effort has been put into

well. I am using Mobiflight, sorry if I missed that. just loaded the FBW A320 profile into Mobiflight and then linked it to the 380. all fine

I am sorry. I just thinks its funny that people just call you Dad around here. That is all. Thank you.

Sadly most repaints available for now are 8K. Which is a stuttery mess in my case, VRAM instantly full. Need to try the Simbridge trick then...

I repack all my 8k textures from downloads to 4k and thats a huge different in performance and fluid, much better, at least for me..

cheers 😉

Maybe a stupid question, but how do you repack/compress them from 8K to 4K (if that's what you're doing) ? 8K is simply too hard on my system, to be used.

Yes, will need to resize them as well. It is anway beyond my needs, I have a 4K monitor and see no difference between 2K, 4K and 8K textures unless zooming in. Absolutely no need for 8K textures as such.

This seems pretty unlikely to me, as it's the same model, just with different textures.

I think what happened in your case is that something in MSFS decided that the 8k texture version of the exterior model (for the other players) was just "too much" (in terms of VRAM) and therefore didn't display it. When you switched to 4k, the model became less expensive in terms of VRAM, and MSFS started displaying it.

I generally see people recommending paint.net for resizing textures. I haven't done this myself, but I've seen various guides about this online.

Another stupid question: How do you setup your joystick in the A380X ? Right now, it's setup as I have reversers - but I haven't... Is there a way to setup this up?

In the EFB under Simulation Options you will find a Throttle calibration page.

Sure. But you did not read the FBW documentation from their Website? All mentioned there

Not a stupid Question, there are certainly many different possibilities, I'll go into 2 of them.

One would be Photoshop, for example, but you need the Nvidia filter APP so that the files can be opened and edited.
Then there is a small but clever program called Paint.net which you can buy from the Microsoft Store but is also available as freeware, which I use for example.

You can then open the texture file or drag it over ( drag and drop ) and do the work.

First with picture - resize, there opens a window with which you reduce the 8k to 4k (4096), then you save it with the filter BC2 (Liniar, DXT3) and then it makes you a 22MB file that was previously 67MB or 89MB in size.
I don't know exactly if multiple files with batch work but I don't think so, but it's actually very fast if you have the flow out, I make about 20 texturefiles in about 10 mins ore less.

Do a google search for free paint.net and you will surely find what you are looking for, for this task i.e. reducing and saving 8K or other formats it is realy a fine App, there are also some different filters to use but I don't know how they all work but if you use the BC2 (Liniar, DXT3) filter you are exactly right for MSFS.
Hope this helps, can only recommend this program..

cheers 😉
