MSFS doesn't start. I think I might just leave it.

I think it's worthwhile to fix the problem and even reinstall if need be. Let's be honest, Every time a new simulator is released, it usually takes 6–12 months after release before it's actually good enough with updates and developers to start leaving behind the previous generation. It's always been the case in the past with Microsoft Flight Sim, P3D and XP.

I've owned every version of flight simulator since Flight Simulator 3.0 in 1988.

Windows 11 Pro loaded on a 4TB Gen5 Crucial T700 SSD, 4TB Samsung 990 Pro SSD, Ryzen 9 7950x3d, AS Rock X670e Taichi Motherboard, Gigabyte Gaming RTX 4090 OC 24GB, 64GB (2x32GB) Viper Venom  DDR5-6000MT/s, MSI 32" MAG 321UPX QD-OLED 260hz 4K Gaming Monitor.

I can't be of much more help, because today and for couple weeks, MSFS is booting up fine for me.

When it hasn't from time to time, I click on this box to go windowed, and then reduce the sim to less than full size compared to the monitor. Like in this image where the desktop is seen on all 4 sides around the sim window. And this has always fixed the issue for me in the past.spacer.png

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

The only thing I did yesterday was buy the FSReborn TL3000 which I flew a lot last night and for an hour or so early this morning. No other changes or new add-ons for ages. And all I have running at the same time is TDS. There are 101 things to try and I must have tried the lot today.

if you got  the  steam  version open up  steam  go  to the library  right click flight simulator/ select properties select installed files   than  select  verify intergity of  game  files      i had  to do  this  6  months  ago  during  a  update my power  went down   and  when i started  the  sim   it  kept  on having  the  spinning  circle think it  took  around  10 minutes  to  check

So running offline didn't work, neither did verifying the files in Steam. Reinstalling is the only option I think.

I'll think about it.

I thought Steam had a way to verify files on it's games, and replace any defective ones...

It does by retrieving valid files and only those valid files replacing any corrupted/edited ones, so if you did a Verify Files Check it would only download what it needs too in order to get the installation back to default/normal.

The trouble with MSFS is because of - I don't know what, maybe it's overall installed files or something - whatever reasons when you Verify Files it wants to redownload the entire game, come to think of it it may well be the launcher built into MSFS itself which prevents "easy" verifying as found with most other Steam games.

A friend had the same thing happen to him a few weeks back--a clean install of a current video driver followed by clearing the DirectX cache got it back into working order.

Yup, tried that as well.

I have officially left MSFS2020 now.

16 days until the next one.

An empty D drive awaits.

$200? Why? You can get the Standard Edition for $60. Only get the more expensive editions if you really need/want them. The base edition is just fine if you are trying to save a buck or you already know you don't want the additional aircraft/airports.

You can also buy individual planes from the more expensive editions this time around. You don't need to buy a bunch of things you don't need.

Actually you are right.....Only thing is that I have to wait and see what and how I can port tons of airports purchased in 2020 version. If that is for free and if it works as they said it will and if the all airplanes purchased (Fenix and PMDG) will work that would make sense. But I will wait to see if that actually work as "promised" and what the issues if any might arise with new Sim.

@St Mawgan you are not alone, been happening to me for the last few days with no changes to system or new addons added.

I found my problem with help from the gurus at my favourite local computer shop. Last week I upgraded the ram (6000) from 32gig to 64 in anticipation of msfs2024. For whatever reason the identical additional ram would not play nice with each other. Ram replaced, all good now.
