I live in north Somerset and I have never, ever experienced such a miserable period of weather in my entire 71 years on this planet! I am someone who finds the weather has an effect on my mental well being. I used to suffer with SAD for many years, from November through until about February. It was always quite a battle for me. However, since taking Vitamin D about ten years ago, every day, I no longer have to deal with what was once quite a debilitating issue. My father also suffered too, so badly he emigrated to Spain, where, you guessed, he no longer had to deal with the condition. The weather where we live, has been atrocious since October 2023 and has been constantly cloudy, with many more rainy than dry days in a week. I think we had a ten day period in June or July, can't remember, where it was reasonably pleasant, every other time, I can't remember having more than two consecutive days of what I would call blue sky days. We had one evening in the summer where it was warm and pleasant enough for us to sit in the garden until nine o'clock. I smile when I talk about the warm summer days growing up in Southport, in the fifties and sixties and people say, oh yes, the weather was no different, you just remeber the better times because you're a kid... erm, no, sorry, I don't buy that one little bit. The weather was far better. I remember rainy days, I remember cold, foggy November days too and I remember downright freezing days in December when most winters my dad's fish pond would have several inches of ice! But the summers were beautiful generally, warm, sometimes hot with a gentle breeze. Most of my childhood in the summer holidays was spent at the Southport open air pool, that's something that you won't hear much of today! I think to sum up, in my opinion, the big difference was that back then the seasons were very different, with very cold winters and beautiul summers. Now, it seems the seasons are merging together! Having said that, the summers of 22/23 have had periods where the weather has been so hot it was almost unbearable! 30-34c! and with that heat came a lot of humidity, which is the killer for me. So it seems that there's no rhyme nor reason for the state of the weather. Then again, as Brits, what would we chat about if we didn't have the weather to talk about?

Great post - I find vitamin D supplements help me a lot as well; I was suffering from terrible anxiety - not in the sense that anything was wrong, or something terrible was going to happen.. just, my body felt off. Weakness, fear, etc. Since taking them I'm back to my old self again. The sunlight is important for loads of things. Perhaps I'm a plant 😆

I'm looking forward to the days I can sit on my garden seat with a cuppa watching the bees do their work.. only a few months to go with any luck.

Here, até Porto, Portugal, the day was sunny with 24c or more. It isn't Algarve, but its rare the week pass bye and no sun, but rarely, it happens to and its easy to see how people miss him

Not worst, quite on the contrary, the further you get to the south here at PORTA LAND (PORTUGAL) 🙂

Here in Barreiro only the morning fog/mist can hide the Sun for a little while, and from time to time there's a whole day covered with clouds - it happens sometimes, but it's not usual...

Then the temperature ... specially to the West ...

Ya guys should all come living here, the best place to live in the whole Universe !!!

Well I awake this morning at Kylesku to glorious blue skies with the sun just coming up over the mountains, glorious.

Yesterday’s ride was a mixed bag, riding through a couple of hours of low cloud and rain with temperatures around 13c. Then as I got to the North of the hill and started descending towards Ullapool the foehn effect kicked in and within the space of about 3 miles I got broken cloud, dry roads and the temperature went up to 17c.

There was a spectacular sight as I road along side one of the lochs with steep mountains either side and with a cloud base of about 200ft it formed an amazing tunnel.

You could in theory fly through the tunnel in a fast jet, you’d be mad to do it in real life, but in in the sim it would be spectacular.

The NHS recommend Vitamin D in the UK winter. I take them in the winter, D3, sometimes in the summer if we have a cloudy spell.

Cloudy all day in Guernsey but no rain. 13c. Humidity high, 90%.

Same for Saturday and Sunday but sunshine for Monday and 14c.

My daughter is still swimming, sea temp 16c and last night got stung by a jelly fish. Yikes! ☹️

Wow! I hadn’t realised how little of the cloud had broken over England and Wales. Just a small area east of me. Note how the foehn effect of the Scottish mountains is allowing those lucky people to enjoy loads of sunshine.

I was at Rannoch moor station for the night last night. It was cloudy and misty on the ride south all the way until reaching Northumbria at around 15:30 when the skies cleared and the sun and moon came out.

The down side to that was with the clear sky the temperature plummeted to 7c , I needed a hot shower when I got to my hotel.

The last time I saw the sun was exactly a week ago. Since last Monday this area and much of  England has been covered with a blanket of cloud.

The cause? A large area of high pressure situated over and to the east of the country. The sun isn’t strong enough at this time of year to burn it off.

At least it isn’t cold during day or night. But it is thoroughly miserable. There’s a possibility of it appearing on Tuesday.

Does this ever happen where you live?

Believe it or not, it happens in Hawaii once a year or more.

The worst I can remember is a few years back and it was solid overcast and tropical downpours for almost two weeks.

At least it was relatively warm 🤙

Warmth means a lot! Plus 12 hours of daylight.

This is a very interesting video from the U.K. Met Office. Watch from 17 mins in.

The base of the cloud in the UK is just 400 meters (1200ft) and the tops are 700 meters (2100ft). Above that it’s cloud free. How frustrating. Like the skin of an apple.

With a cold front coming in from the Atlantic tomorrow that will blow away all this crap before high pressure builds behind and the settled but sunnier weather continues. 👍
