Ok, I messed around a little bit last night in VR and found that by reducing the OpenXR rendering scale from 225% (=1.5x scale up) to 150% (=1.2x scale up), my fps in G2 instantly jumped from 30 to 40. Picture quality maybe a bit softer but the reduced blurring due to higher fps compensates well.

My settings are nearly all Ultra, and TLOD=100 or 400 makes no difference in fps, only reducing the OpenXR rendering scale makes the huge boost in fps. So it appears my rig is almost entirely GPU-bound.

Ground details can be amazing. I did an emergency landing in the field and the whole environment is almost breathtakingly detailed: the soil, the trees, the grass, the flowers, etc. Pity once a few hundreds feet AGL all these details don't matter. I wonder MSFS has some ground-based simulations planned in the future by doing this much details. Overall, this is great.

Traffic = Ultra is pathetic, only a very short stretch of highways/roads right close to the airplane gets cars popped right in front of your eyes, with bare roads immediately beyond. I believe this is a clear downgrade from MSFS2020.

I had no engine sound in the cockpit, kind of strange.

Heres a link to the YT for DLSS file and swapper.. makes a huge difference

Will give this DLSS swap thing a try tonight. I always use DLSS Quality which I found looks better than TAA in VR.

Just chiming in with my 2024 experience. Cloned the settings from 2020 to 2024. Getting about a 35% hit on frames. And it feels like it. Very jittery and unpleasant, while I have 2020 very smooth and usable even without great frame rates.

Same for 2D... cloned settings, 35% hit.

Ive got random jitters even with everything set to minimum or off, like msfs2020 but worse. I'm guessing it's network / server related?

However, setting the in game render to 100, then maxing out OXRToolkit res override, makes the VR look spectacular with not much more of a performance drop. I just can't quite maintain 30fps

Are any of you guys perhaps using the in built framerate limiter and have it set to 30?

I have tried it set to 30 and different values plus off. I can't see any change in stability for reprojection etc. Do you?

I'm testing with link cable and virtual desktop

It's the "Dynamic" settings in VR graphics? I set the target fps to 30 and didn't notice too much difference either.

I found that due to the highly detailed ground, fps drops noticeably when flying very close to ground. Just randomly landed on the unpaved runway of U98 in Idaho City. All those pebbles and small rocks eat up to 10 fps.

Unfortunately, DLSS swap didn't make any difference for me either.

My experience as well. Disappointed TBH. I know it's fresh out the door but it has an awful way to go just to break even with 2020. I'm afraid I wasted my money.

After a few flights and messing about with settings... i have to agree... the G2 and 2020 is far better for the experience at this stage.. im hopeful that things improve as flying in VR is a nightmare... mouse pointer works then doesnt work... big black square in front on start... choppy frames... low quality graphics for smooth flight... something is dreadfully wrong with the optimization in VR.. 2D all is fine and dandy...

NB... I forgot to swap the DLSS file to the latest after the update....much better now! Yeesh!

spent a lot more time experimenting. 2024 and 2020 with similar settings (or what appear to be) I get better performance in 2020

However, I can get 2024 to a point where it's mostly buttery smooth over most of JFK airport and still look okay.

I only have 50Mb/s download so it's probably a struggle

I switched between 2020 and 2024 in VR a few more times, and one thing I'm definitely feel missing in 2020 is the lighting. Lighting in 2020 is a quantum leap from the dreadful FSX, but 2024 now makes lighting in 2020 almost feel like the old FSX. The whole lighting environment in 2024 just feels right: brighter, better contrast and overall better color.

With MSFS2020, AMS2, Assetto Corsa, DCS, I get a clearer and more stable VR experience with oculus link (90 or 120hz and Hight SS setting) than with Virtual Desktop at similar settings.

So far, with msfs2024, I cannot get the same results and VD is noticeably better. 🤔 I wonder if the FPS is jumping around too much for the oculus reprojection to cope?

Hey guys, you may already be aware of this but thought i would mention it... I installed the NVIDIA APP to see if it would be helpful and replace the old NCP... i clicked the optimize button for MSFS2024 to see what it recommended... all a bit low for me so went in game and entered VR mode and it was hideous! Went into the graphics settings and changed them to my liking..exited and back to VR mode and STILL HIDEOUS???

Discovered that no matter what i changed in the actual sim settings, the Nvidia App had overridden the in game settings to what IT recommended! Yikes!

So, needless to say..uninstalled that and back to very clear DLSS/Quality mode...

As i  say, you may be aware of this but may be helpful in this merry-go-round of MSFS2024!

After a day of tweaking yesterday I've come to an early conclusion, that on my system TAA eats performance massively in DX12/MSFS24 compared to DX11/2020.

So I've had to settle on DLSS (still playing with the variants), and fairly low settings overall still compared to 2020, blurry Garmin screens are a major issue as in some planes they've wrecked the VR Cockpit Focus which zooms straight through the screens into the engine bay. So I'm having to slowly bump up SteamVR SS which itself then eats performance.

Early conclusions are that the optimisation improvements they promised simply don't work very well with VR in mind, I feared this may be the case and I'm gutted it's true.

I'm still tweaking settings here and there to get it somewhere equal with what I had in 2020 so more to do but overall pretty disappointed so far.

Interesting to hear since over here, MSFS2024 doesn't show up in the list in the Nvidia app. However, based on what you say, I guess that is not a big problem and you're better off without it.

I like being able to have notification of new drivers and I also like the automatic tuning/OC but other than that, I have switched off automatic optimization and will set whatever works best myself like I'm always used to.
