December 31, 20241 yr New MSFS 2024 user (1 week) Using a Quest3, Sidequest : Level4 - 2048 - 120Hz, and Virtualdesktop. No issue. Using a core I9, 64Gb ram, Rtx4080 and NVMe discs. Windows 11 24H2. But I did an IFR flight from a small airport. I will try FS2024 VR later when my controller will be fully configured.

Yeah that mouse bug is really annoying, but, guess what, I had the same bug in 2020. So nothing really new for me, have worked around it for years now…Though it should have been fixed years ago, but it is what it is…:( In 2020 I fixed it with using windows key, in 2024 im tapping ESC key twice to get the clickspots back… that fixes one mouse bug. The other mouse bug I never found a solution for in 2020 and 2024, you know the one when the mouse becomes laggy and almost unusable.. Edited January 3, 20251 yr by Kaboki
January 7, 20251 yr In 2D I'm happy with 2024 for the most part (seems to eat ram and vram for breakfast though). In VR even with my 12700K / 4080 it's just not really doable. I've got a reverb G2. January 8, 20251 yr I have a low end rig (see sig). Quest 3 + MSFS 2020 wasn't doable for me either. MSFS on my desktop however works very well. Currently enjoying other VR titles. I am not a really committed flight simmer. Neither am I casual gamer. I fall somewhere in the middle category, in the dark damp winter evenings I use the sim quite a lot but in the summer months I have other things to do.......Why am I telling you this? .........It's about how much people are willing to invest in this hobby, investment in time and money. Quest 3 £400 + PC needed £1500-3000 (guess) Virtual Desktop £18 Dedicated router £60 (guess) Decent joystick ?? Prescription lenses ??? Other obstacles apart from the cash: Hours needed to wade through the black art of tweaking these things Family pressures (variable depending on you circumstances) Physiological impact (nausea (depending on your resistance to it)) Do you wear glasses??? Psychological factors (Variable. Not everyone feels safe being cut off from the outside world for extended periods) I guess Microsoft et al now know that VR headsets are always going to have a very limited market hence the poor support, commitment and optimization from the major players. They know what the market is now....is it worth the effort for them.......remember 3D TV's 😂 Always a niche within a niche. The XR Toolkit developer mentioned that at present there is not a single software engineer in Asobo dedicated to VR. There used to be two. I almost wish that MSFS decides to charge say $50 extra for enabling VR feature. Even if only 10,000 players pay for it, that's half million $$ and enough for Asobo to hire one or two dedicated VR developers. I'll be happy to pay $50 extra, really a pocket change comparing to the cost of decent VR hardware, as long as Asobo keeps developing and optimizing the VR experience in MSFS. 9950X3D / 64GB / RTX5090 / Pimax Crystal Light / Win11

It's not saying 2024 VR is not playable, but the performance penalty is hard to swallow, especially comparing to 2020. Yes, I can reach decent fps by keep reducing the rendering quality and pixels, but that's not the way it should be. Anyway, my new year's solution is ... get a freaking 5090! Wish me good luck with those brutal scalpers.. 9950X3D / 64GB / RTX5090 / Pimax Crystal Light / Win11

January 9, 20251 yr a question none of the usual reviewer suspects has asked: what exactly does $ 2.000 RTX 5000 MultiFrameGeneration do for We, the VR people? So we asked Phem: how does MFG increase fps, reduce stutters and improve frame times in VR? in two words:😀 AMD 7800X3D, Windows 11, Gigabyte X670 AORUS Elite AX Motherboard, 64GB DDR5 G.SKILL Trident Z5 NEO RGB (AMD Expo), RTX 4090, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 2 TB PCIe 4.0, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 1 TB PCIe 4.0, 4K resolution 50" TV @60Hz, VR: Pimax Crystal Light + HP Reverb G2 @ 90 Hz, Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant, be quiet 1000W PSU, Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black air cooler. 60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking. very nice.

MSFS is not Cyberpunk. considering only an estimated average 30% rasterisation performance increase in VR over the 4090, which might boil down to even less in MSFS, I won't be spending another $ 2.000 when I am getting already 40-50 fps with my 4090, with DLSS 3.8 at Quality setting and most VR settings in MSFS 2024 to HIGH or MAX. if they supported FrameGeneration where it is needed most, in VR @ 8K resolutions, that would be a different story alltogether. .................................. January 9, 20251 yr I know they lied about 50xx performance increase, but frankly I probably need just that 30% increase to pull my VR in 2024 over the edge by gaining that extra precious 10+ fps. And I'll sell my 4090 so I can keep one of my kidneys safe from the merciless scalpers ... 😝 9950X3D / 64GB / RTX5090 / Pimax Crystal Light / Win11
January 9, 20251 yr impatiently waiting for your honest prompt feedback on January 31st re. VR performance incrrease. fortunately you already have the best CPU to feed the 5090. I would wait for the 5090 results before selling the 4090, I assume you could always resell the 5090 should you not be satisfied. the saddest thing about FrameGen, let alone MultiFrameGen is, it does absolutely nothing for VR. as you said you might end up paying $ 2.000 for an extra 10 fps, i.e. $ 200 per fps. you'll have to really enjoy everyone of them individually and know them by their first name. 😄 my only hope therefore remains DLSS 4. for those who play mostly Cyberpunk that is a different story altogether.
