Well, after hours and hours it finalloy loaded in... (now out and cant get back in)

Seems i have some tuning to do with the CL...graphics were set to medium using TAA and certainly not smooth... i updated the PP and went to restart the sim but overload on servers so cant test it out..

There is a bit to learn about the sim and it new interface...

I cant get the user translation keys to bind so i can adjust my head position in the cockpit... im certainly not blown away at this stage.. more frustrating... cant even calibrate my throttles!

Hopefully when MS sorts themselves out, thinsg will pan out better..at this stage no point in trying until ive watched a few more YT videos

Anyone else got in and tested VR?

I tested it out one time same as you before being unable to get back in.  Install had me at ultra PC settings but then Medium for VR settings.  It actually looked terrible at Medium with TAA and a terrain LOD of 50 as the default settings.  I ran pretty much everything on High with DLSS in 2020 on my 4090 / i9 11900k and the Crystal Light.  I switched to DLSS in 2024 and noticed a huge performance improvement.  I then started turning up some settings like I had them in 2020 and performance was still good.  Some settings don’t take without a reboot so I did that and that was when I could not get back in again.

So, the jury is still out and I’ll try again tomorrow.  Seems like TAA is a no go for me even on a 4090.  Was hoping to have a better experience with that and lose the blurry glass panels with TAA but I guess not.

AH! Interesting findings mate! I thought i was the only one underwhelmed by the settings...

Once im back in again, ill fiddle around...but i did assume that TAA would run better with the CL than with my old HP G2..

I even have a large black square appear in front of me when entering VR mode... not sure what that is...

Lots to tune and tweak, so hopefully sharing them here will help heaps of us...

In all I think 2024 is a mess its probably 6 - 12 months away with multiple updates before its any good just like 2020 was.

I did expect this so no surprise that History has repeated.

I cant see myself uninstalling 2020 anytime soon

Mine is finally working now, after hours messing with the terrible camera views and setting up stuff like i had in MSFS, i only have complaints so i'll leave it here for now. It has a long LONG way to go (mostly like MSFS when it released) but hopefully it will become better faster than the predecessor.

Now... HOW do you set the default view in the cockpit? Why do i appear outside the plane GTA style and not knowing where to click to enter the cockpit in some MSFS original aircraft? ******* Asobo, WHY?

Also, is there a way to get rid of the excessive bloom and the co-pilot (another big BIG why...)?

that's a bummer. I was hoping it might have been a better start than the early days of 2020 VR

I did a few VR flights in MSFS2024, and, to be honest, not very much impressed. With similar graphic settings and same flight/location setup, the graphics in VR doesn't feel that much better compared to MSFS2020. Lighting is better, ground texture is sharper, but everything else is about same or even slightly worse than MSFS2020. Photogrammetry appears the same as in MSFS2020. Trees change color by season, but their overall color just doesn't look nature.

Fps in my G2 is about 25% lower, barely touch 30fps. Of course, last night was a nightmare for streaming data etc. So I'll see what happens in the next few days/weeks.

Right now I got my MSFS2020 perfectly set up for IFR flight and everything is really smooth. So I'm just going to stick with MSFS2020 for IFR practice flights (I don't get see nothing but clouds and gauges flying IFR), and mostly trying MSFS2024 to enjoy VFR flights in VR. Hopefully I get the best of both, for a while..

Just did my first flight in VR. Hard to say how good it can look with those server issues. Not exactly a wow experience, but I’m sure it’ll improve. Performance seems to be okay so far. The iniBuilds A320 was unflyable due to graphics issues (yellow lines flashing up every few seconds).

Got to try a little more tweaking.  Seems like no matter what settings I use I’m around 30-35fps with air traffic at medium.  If I turn traffic off I can hit 40fps.  Using openxr toolkit to measure things.  I have had issues with DCS since I got the crystal light after upgrading from the G2 and I’m seeing them in the new sim too.  Any cpu intensive stuff I get really bad stuttering and in some cases my view is thrown out the top of the airplane or into the floor.  This resolves as the cpu intensity calms down.  Looks like my i9 11900k needs to be upgraded which means it’s time for a new cpu/motherboard/ram.  I figured it was time but I was hoping the touted performance improvements would help for VR but it seems it’s likely only helpful if you’re in pancake mode unless you have the latest hardware.  Guess my CPU just can’t keep up with my 4090 GPU in intensive areas.

Edit:  Forgot to mention I was using DLSS Balanced to achieve that fps and a sensation of smoothness.  TAA is horrible on performance for me and DLSS Quality hits it down a few fps more and does not feel as smooth.  Overall VR performance is worse in 2024 for me.  I really like my AI traffic too but it seems the only thing they did was add better models.  I’m still seeing some crazy AI behavior and didn’t see one airline livery yet at DFW when I tried there.  Looks like I’ll be sticking to GA and trying to fly from smaller airports or lesser known ones for now.

I wouldn't buy any new hardware item until we see what a few updates does for this sim.🤔 Keep 2020 in the meantime and watch the developments.  The main issue I see out the gate is 2024's sole option for DirectX being DX12 which is not prime time in 2020 let alone 2024.  2024 has been sold as a more efficient product over 2020 requiring less HD space.  Pimax's CL is the official headset for 2024.  That alone speaks volumes as to what a reasonable expectation should be for this sim.  In all accounts it should outperform 2020.  Allot of work has to be done to get this to work, from the back-end server load, to VR, to DX12 optimization.   Plus, it has to run on XBOX optimally.  That alone tells me I don't need a new PC and/or GPU (you by contrast have an i9 and a 4090 which is plenty compared to the XBOX base requirement).  The box I have now is way more powerful than an XBOX and this sim again needs to perform exceptional on that console else the wrath of Microsoft.  So save your money.  If Asobo can't get this right anytime soon we still have 2020.😏

2020 might be around allot longer than expected. So all those posting farewells may need to rethink things as we monitor this in the coming months...🤞

Those might be valid points but I have the same stuttering issues in DCS since I got the Crystal Light a month and a half ago.  If the CPU has to do a lot it’s a stuttering mess and it’s almost like desync in multiplayer where your view just stutters and you get shot out of the center viewpoint and you can’t do anything but turn left and right.  Then it goes back to a smooth 35-40fps.  DCS doesn’t have all these server issues and it’s doing the same thing.  The crystal light actually recommends a 12th gen CPU or later as the minimum requirement.  I have an 11th gen.  I was told it would work and it does but I have yet to have a good flight experience all the way through since upgrading from the G2 and no matter all the things I’ve tried with lowering settings it doesn’t help.  I’ve tried lowering resolution which on a 4090 I feel I shouldn’t have to do and all that does is make the picture quality bad.  I really do believe I may need a CPU upgrade to run with the settings I want to and still have a smooth experience.  I don’t know….I don’t have the money until January or February anyway so we will see what happens.

You have to get the CL dialed in to your hardware, it's not a plug and play experience.  You actually learn allot from the process.  Read through my journey and what others have posted here. It will lead you down the road to find what works for your setup (on MSFS 2020).  There's also some other useful threads here that will help you.😉

Quick Tip: you can't have your PC/OpenXR/MSFS settings tuned to your G2 expecting the same results from the CL.  All settings have to be adjusted for the specific VR headsets to exploit their unique advantages.  You'll get what I'm saying from the thread below.

So after a little more investigating and using the sim i have found that my Tobii eye tracker causes a CTD so dont use it at all..

For VR, I used DLSS on quality mode (with the latest DLSS file using DLSS swapper) with mostly medium settings and to my surprise the gauges were clear indeed! No blurriness as i expected..in fact, very close to TAA...

Ill keep messing around with settings to see if i can crank up some and still get good smooth gameplay... one thing that annoys me is when i first get into the cockpit, i am met with an big black square right in front of me.. as im flying in windowed mode, i assumed it was the PP app that was still not minimized on the desktop... but no... it only goes away after i have entered the settings mode and back again.. not sure what thats all about... hopefully the new patch will sort things out a little...

Any other findings chaps?

Heres a link to the YT for DLSS file and swapper.. makes a huge difference
