WINDOWS 10 OR WINDOWS 11?

I must toss it and replace it to get Win 11?

You most certainly won't have to.

Win 11 can be installed on any PC, just use Rufus to create your bootable USB installer and you'll have options to disable the checks for TPM and secure boot requirements.

If for some reason you decide to go with windows 10, you can pay microsoft 30.00 for an additional year of security updates. You can get a second year for 60.00, and a 3rd year for 90.00, then it ends for good. I imagine businesses will be the ones taken advantage of the 3 year extra support. I use windows 11 on once gaming pc, and windows 10 on another. I don't notice any performance difference on either side by side.

I’m using win 10 because I use a Reverb G2 VR and need windows mixed reality

I am using Win 11 without 24H2 because also I have a Reverb G2 VR. It's really outrageous that a windows update makes expensive hardware useless

WIndows 10 goes off of support in October 2025.  Sounds like a long time off, but people should start planning now.

Any fresh install/build should be on 11 at this point.  Installing 10 now wouldn't be a good idea, unless you want to pay MS for support on 10.

Multiple test (3D Mark, Cinebench) on my setup as well as a friend of mine shows that Windows 10 out performs Windows 11.

Windows 11 has core isolation security features enabled by default, which is likely the reason you saw lower performance with Windows 11 if you didn't change any settings.

11. No question.

I'm sure there are users still on 8 who insist it is better than 10. Some people are just like that.

Respected simmers,
Thank you for your replies. Much appreciated.

Win 11 Pro here.
Made the change from 10 to 11 about a year ago.
At first there is the "oh boy, what have I done" feeling, went back to 10 after 3 weeks but then there is that hmm, i liked this and that more in 11 so after those 3 weeks I re-installed 11 and never looked back.
But as always, some stuff still could be (a lot) better and there are a few programs who will help you to tweak it to your liking, just as I used to have them in 10.

Windows 11 is the best OS regardless of usage. Imho. I really don't know why some people stick with W10.

I generally do not upgrade my version of Windows until I buy (or build) a new PC. Windows 10 works fine on my PC, and it is supported for another year. If it ain't broke......

Well, in your case it makes sense as your CPU isn't officially supported. You can't even install Windows 11 without a workaround.

Late to the party, but I’ve noticed that recent sim updates seem to run a bit smoother for many people on newer builds of Windows 11. I’m curious if anyone here has seen better frame pacing or fewer micro‑stutters after switching, especially with heavy add‑ons. If you’re still on Windows 10, what’s holding you back from moving over?

In 2024 Microsoft itself recommended Windows 10 even though Windows 11 had already been released for some time, I don't understand why it doesn't update the table... Maybe because for Gaming Windows 10 remains the best choice?

https://flightsimulator.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/12702272798364-Microsoft-Flight-Simulator-2024-FAQ

Or maybe someone found an updated table somewhere that recommends win11?

Edited by LIML2020

They are not recommending 10 over 11. That table is just listing 10 as the oldest version of windows that can be used.

I hope everyone still running Windows 10 enrolled in extended support.  This isn't a topic for debate.  An unsupported OS will be far more vulnerable to attacks.  If you paid for extended support you are ok for now, but MS has said that will end in October 2026 (that could change as we get closer, but so far the extended support is ending for consumers).
