Beyond ATC microphone-less

Featured Replies

As I am not using a microphone on my PC I wonder if Beyond ATC can be used with keyboard input/instructions only? (Pardon my ignorance 🙂 )

Kind regards,
Hans van WIjhe

i have BATC on a second screen, but there is also an msfs toolbar option. download it here https://www.beyondatc.net/download , it is called 'VR Toolbar'. download it, extract it and copy the folder

Yes, it can be used without a microphone via user interface and button control and/or automatic copilot handling most comms for you.

regarding mapping a keybind to display the 'BeyondATC Toolbar', i just came across this in the discord... 'can be mapped to "ATC Choice 0" in MSFS controls settings'

Yes, I’ve only used it with a keyboard / auto reply.

If anything it probably works better as there’s no issue with BATC understanding you.

Yes, as above probably actually easier since you have the prompts there, and it never fails to understand from the prompts.

Example: "Field in sight" vs "Field in site"

If you say it, for me it is recognised as the latter, which the program does not understand. Use the prompts and you are good.

Not always. I still have constant problems with the correct ICAO pronounciations of three and nine (tree and niner). If you use those it tends to not understand you. It's gotten better with each update but it is still happening.

I never have used a Microphone with BATC, it works fine with auto respond.

I have never used a mic in BATC, works perfectly well. I have set the trigger action to my flightstick.

I meant clicking on the actual button, rather than saying what it says there - sorry if that wasn't clear.

Hence the Site / Sight comment.

I also never used a mic. Works well. I would welcome a bit more button control though... Right now you can only assign a Fire 1 option, so that's the 'command' at the top of the list. And quite often that command isn't the one I need so I need to get my mouse and click etc. Would be could if all commands were numbered and you could simply press the number you'd want to say.

I'd also prefer a better tree-like structure to ask for Directs or other altitudes.

But anyway, it works without a mic so that's cool already.

Thanks for this info. I was planning to use a trigger on my joystick, too, however I cannot find an option in BATC that gives me an option that I want to use my keyboard or joystick. The option "Input device" only hollers at me that no microphones are detected without offering me to enter an alternative. Can you shed some light on this for me, please? (Yes, I am aware of the fact that BATC is supported on Discord, but I am trying to stay away from there as much as I can)

Thanks for any help here.

Hans

You are looking at the Audio input device: you can ignore that one completely (even though it'll stay red forever). Scroll down to Key bindings (lower left corner of the options screen) and there you will see 'Toggle bring to front' (to toggle the UI) and 'Fire action 1' (to 'say' the first 'command' in the list). Click in the empty box to the right of it and then use any key or button you want to assign it.

as the post above regarding the fire action 1 button mapping. then simply click auto respond and\or auto-tune when you have clicked the 'fly' button and get to the atc screen, everything should be good to go.

Thanks again, but so far I still didn''t get it to function. I assigned both actions to joystick buttons that aren't bound to anything else, but no matter how hard I press these buttons, BATC is still asleep. I will give it another try tomorrow, no doubt I will get it to work. BTW, I exclusively fly the Fenix aircraft, BATC should work with these airplanes as well, right?

Kind regards,
Hans van WIjhe
