Because we are discussing two planes that are close competitors and no one else seems to mind drawing comparisons between two direct competitors for MSFS 2020. 
 

The whole point of this thread in case you didn’t notice, is to help people decide whether or not to get this plane - especially if they already have the Fenix. 

Is this against the rules here on AVSim?

Interesting! I checked my invoices, and yeah, VAT is 0.. But I live in Canada so maybe that's why? No idea hah

And, no. We’re not sneakily adding “excluding local taxes” or any of that. It’s just £49.99. All inclusive.

My main point here is that many folks don't see that Fenix charge in GBP and FSL charge in USD.

Due to the exchange rate, 50gbp is equivalent to about 65 USD, depending on the day (I've seen it as high as $70.

Now the fact that y'all get whacked 20% for vat is a govt sanctioned crime....but that's for some other forum

With the FSL tax policy, the difference is even greater. about 65$ vs 86$ in my case

Please note that the Fenix price already includes 8% UK VAT

There's no 8% VAT rate in the UK, only (currently) 0%, 5%, 20% and exempt.

Goods and services 'consumed' outside the UK do not typically have VAT applied to them. Therefore, by keeping the price the same for everyone, each UK owner of Fenix products has effectively cost Fenix 20% of their revenue.

You are right, the Fenix price includes my VAT, and I mistakenly thought of 8 pounds as a percentage

They both have extremely high systems depth and fidelity, and I think people tend to forget how deep the Fenix simulation goes - That because it is so pretty, it must be "less good" when you start stress testing it, but having done that myself, I can confirm, it works as expected in the majority of situations, in fact I used it quite extensively when preparing for my command upgrade sims.

From my understanding, they have both been developed to simulate the physical wiring of the aircraft, and as a result are extremely good quality.

I genuinely can't tell any difference in accuracy of systems depth between the two, are there inaccuracies? Yes of course there are - but, they're pretty few and far between!

Now what really sticks out for me, is that the FSLabs of course has the MEL function which in my view is it's jewel in the crown and really makes you think before jumping in and going flying, the same way we have to IRL.

But purely in terms of systems depth and accuracy, and "doing what I expect it to do when I do something" - in my view they are very much on the same level.

I'm not going to tell anyone what they should or shouldn't buy. But, hopefully that gives you a little bit of context on the actual standard these two aircraft are at.

most objective comment so far, and what makes it even more valuable is that you are a real pilot.

Well yes but they at least TRY to. It's their design goal and target audience. They are not trying to cater for everyone and make as much money as possible. Invariably pro sims tend to look very basic out the window because that's the least important factor in learning flight. All you REALLY need gfx wise in a sim for pure learning is to see where the ground ends and the sky begins. They add extra detail when it does not compromise the simulator itself.

Are you a real pilot who has experienced both and can verify that? They must be extremely close in order to replicate situations such as the loss of both engines in the incident shown in the film “Sully”.
