January 2, 20251 yr Cpt_Piett asked me in a previous post about an unsolved problem I have: https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/660512-beyond-10-miles/page/20/#comments “Would you mind re-posting the screenshot? It's interesting that autogen is also affected. I did some tests in 2020 with TLOD and OLOD, and could not figure out what affects the draw distance of autogen. At the moment, I've turned PG off in 2024, after using it pretty much 100% since the release of 2024. Reason: I've ran into some freak stutters and VRAM overflow in several PG-areas. “ Hi, On page 10 of these posts: https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/660512-beyond-10-miles/page/10/ I did a screenshot just circling NYC (MSFS2020). The next post on that page is a screenshot by Sethos which compares the same area of NYC. His screenshot looks like PG to my eyes. The next post on that page is from Christopher Low quoting my previous post / screenshot where I mentioned : Took a quick look around New York MSFS2020 on a clear day.... He replied: “That looks like offline mode. In fact, I suspect that it is X-Plane.” Then I had him look for MSFS 1.38.20 in the upper left corner of my screenshot. Note: I do not normally use PG. I currently only have MSFS2020. What do you think? Best Regards, Vaughan Martell PP-ASEL KDTW

Flight simulation is a real curse. I spend three quarters of my time in the simulator repairing something. In a previous post, I took a lot of heat for highlighting the visual issues in both 2020 and 2024. The picture you posted above is nothing new, it happens to all of us. Some won’t admit it exists. I abandoned MSFS 2020 for three years, retook the hobby a few months ago, but it looks like most of the problems still persist. I may abandon it again and revisit the issue in a couple of years. MSFS 2024 looked promising, but it has been a comprehensive disaster, just read the posts. If 2020 has not been repaired in four years, you think 2024 will fair any better? January 3, 20251 yr By the way, Manhattan is only 13.4 miles long. If you’re flying over upper Manhattan and look towards downtown, all the buildings in midtown look blurry, and we’re only talking about 8 miles out. You almost have to be on top of the buildings to have a decent view. It is not a hardware issue, it’s a game issue. I call MSFS 2020 and 2024, the Seven-Mile simulators, because that’s the only decent scenery you’ll see, within a seven mile radius. Edited January 3, 20251 yr by Huascar
January 3, 20251 yr I feel bad for those that have to deal with issues. I know the feeling. Now I spend more time flight simming instead tweaking. MSFS

I posted several videos in the other thread where you admitted it looked sharp. Of course, if you are just referring to photogrammetry, then yes, it can look poor. I had a similar problem in the early days with 2020. Everything was blurry just a few miles out. I couldn't understand how others were posting such sharp screenshots. Many weeks of tweaking And I suddenly saw a sharp 2020. I can't imagine anybody seeing blurriness, but posting it's looks wonderful. Scenery can look sharp to the horizon. If you are referring to PG only, please say so because we can all agree PG can be less than perfect. Tell me what you see 10 miles into the horizon. I believe he used a marker to illustrate his point. I think it gets worse without PG, a bunch of cookie cutter buildings. See below.. I just did a quick test with MSFS2020. Photogrammetery and Bing World Data are Off. One map screenshot to judge distance enroute from downtown NYC towards KJFK. A second screenshot to check the scenery at that point. Notes: I had asked Christopher Low (in another topic/post for a screenshot (or video) showing no problems on his setup. So far no follow up screenshot from him. I provided the screenshot in this topic that Cpt_Piett requested in another topic/post but no follow up from him so far. Do that, save the changes, and turn them back on again, and save the changes. That normally fixes the problem for me. i would go to Data and ensure you have selected unlimited data. I would also clear your cache. See if that solves the problem. Your problem is not unique. Edited January 3, 20251 yr by Huascar

I fixed mine last night but it crashed again this morning. It’s not a simulator, it’s a way of life. Edited January 3, 20251 yr by Huascar
