But who should fix these ground textures if not Microsoft/Asobo? So yes, this is default MSFS content that needs to be fixed. That's why some people (me included) dare to say that, for some places, FSX+Orbx (Base+Vector+OpenLC) looks more detailed than MSFS because the ground textures are a word-not-allowed mess. Sadly, my city is one of these places 😭

You and the thread creator seem to be confused at what needs fixing, and actually what is broke.

Given you have seen screenshots of perfectly good textures, you know MSFS is capable of a sharp and realistic view.

What you are actually complaining about is why the whole world isn't perfectly sharp and realistic. I'm sure one day the whole world will be as good as the best areas in MSFS.  However that doesn't yet exist, so enjoy the great areas we have and look forward to further improvements.

Can we please, please stop this borderline gaslighting of people every single thread once it goes awry. This thread wasn't presented in any mature manner, it wasn't made to have a good faith argument or start an adult conversation. So far, it has been nothing but a shambolic spectacle with OP presenting his opinions and views with the grace of two stubborn freight locomotives deciding to play a game of chicken. It has been weird ad hominem attacks, claims that he forgot he made, it has been goal post moving, it has been bobbing and weaving around facts, it has been trying to establish a narrative as facts despite members disagreeing and posting some great screenshots to disprove it.

Nobody knows what the hell is even the argument at this point, can't get any straight information, get any sort of grounds for comparison, nobody knows to compare against, OP doesn't even know what he said originally. Even goes as far as completely disrespecting people's time and effort, thinking they have to waste hours of their time to disprove a point he can't even verbalize or show off properly. Then we just revert to some vague "Yeah well it's all blurry, that's a fact, Asobo needs to do better. Everyone that disagrees are just haters" mentality.

It's a completely schizophrenic affair of a thread and then some have to absolute gall to start a victim complex, like everyone else are the bad guys, poor OP just stated his opinion and didn't do anything wrong. It's like you've never talked to another human being outside of the internet if you look at this thread and see a real conversation, stating a respectful opinion or starting a good-faith discussion.

Learn how to present an opinion with some respect and humility, with facts and evidence and you'll see that there's no "agenda", there's no big mob of people out to get you. You will see actual adult conversations blossom up and people agreeing with you, instead of putting their guard up and becoming contrarians.

Do better.

As we express our dissatisfaction, I recommend reading the initial OP post again. Absolutely nothing wrong there. As I mentioned earlier, many customers support those opinions and remarks, and I don't see anything wrong with them. While I read a certain post (deleted), I didn't like it; I also find it disturbing to see people like you getting upset over the statement that "ASOBO can do better" or to see so much hate coming from your side simply because there are differing opinions. Calling a thread a "schizophrenic affair" or claiming someone has a "victim complex" is not constructive. I hope you realize that using such language doesn’t sit well with many people. I understand frustrations, but please don't accuse others of wrongdoing when you are in the same situation. As you mentioned, we can DO BETTER.

That looks like offline mode. In fact, I suspect that it is X-Plane.

It does look off, there's zero shading or shadows to be found.

Despite all the flaws and pain FSX gave us, we could at least enjoy looking into the distance.

Here's what I recall from decade+ of FSX then P3D to v4.x:

  • Performance, despite my higher end PC, was so bad I resorted to flying only from dusk to dawn when I could drop autogen down to Sparse, and even then 30fps was the benchmark for success.  Oh yeah bought Orbx sceneries often only to disable them because of the wretched performance.
  • The entire realism from land class based scenery was so poor by comparison to streamed satellite imagery there is no contest.    This is not a little thing:  it's what made MSFS revolutionary, that sense you are actually there.  Never had that prior to MSFS 2020.

Perhaps it's time to reinstall FSX to give yourself a fresh look at MSFS, untainted by distorted memories of FSX.  Another option to help you with this sad state of affairs for you...

...is to get your satisfaction from your own performance, irrespective of the fact you're ultra dissatisfied from 10mi or more out.   This way instead of souring, you will find yourself paying close attention to pilotage, instead of scenery limitations:  both Self Loading Cargo and A Pilot's Life have flight-scoring components to help keep you on your toes managing both flight and flight crew.

I hope Asobo recognizes the issue and is willing to correct it.

The only thing Asobo knows how to do is reduce the LOD further. Roll back improvements and tout that their 737 MAX is the most high fidelity aircraft they’ve ever made.

Sharing a commentary via this venue is hopelessly pointless, especially considering the insular nature of some individuals on this platform. I shall limit my posts to future troubleshooting questions, and I am sure I’ll have more than a few questions as we’re in constant state of repair.

In the meantime, best wishes in 2025 and beyond.

And if you’re going to drink and fly, don’t forget to deploy the landing gear.
