If you zoom way in then yes things are quite blurry on the far horizon.  They're not as sharp as XP.

But the close range and medium range visuals are absolutely stunning!  I guess there's no way to support the current engine and have super sharp textures at a distance though.

I'm okay with the tradeoff because I fly general aviation stuff and am not usually looking so far away.

Like checkout this area I just found in the French Alps, near Saint-Crepin France...  I've got some near mid and far away textures/mesh

The end of the runway is a little blurry and I agree that is annoying - I wish they'd work on getting sharper airport surfaces even when far away.

But overall it's pretty dang nice!

Agree, but it could be better. I am not quitting flight sim, just pointing out the deficiencies, very simple.

I agree, but the issue is that it needs some adjustments in color, brightness, and sharpness. Typically, when we fly over the Alps (above FL350 FL 410), and the sky is clear with no clouds, the entire environment should appear crisp, with more contrast, and not so whitish that it becomes blurry. This sepia shade is not the real one.

I’d be happy to provide evidence but don’t forget my video. Send me your PayPal account. I can spare 100 bucks. That’s the easy part.

I'll put this on my to do list to be actioned when this particular busy time of year is done with and to give time for the thread to mature. If you're still interested then, probably next week, I will msg you PayPal info and get ecact instructions on what you want for your hour sim time video. As it won't be edited I'll likely share it via Dropbox once I've sent proof it's recorded and payment received.

It would be nice if I didn't need to do it as I'm not that bothered about the work as much as you're not bothered about the payment!

Still hoping you can get what you need from screenshots and opinions here.

If you want clear textures with infinite zoom you'll have to try x plane.

Even in the real world the scenery isn't crisp and clear to the horizon...your eyes can't make out things that far away.  Sure you can use a telephoto lense but that's the camera not the sight from a pilots's eyes.

To my eyes that blurry distance registers as realistic haze.  Clearly not to everyone.

This is my sense just from various flights I've done in my life.  You're looking thru acrylic windscreens and side windows in an airplane thru haze.  IOW crisp and clear out to the horizon is not realistic.  Not that MSFS can't be better but as it is now seems pretty decent overall.  I get the most I can out of it by setting render scaling to 150, TAA, AMD FidelityFX to 200 and enable the Details filter in Nvidia App.  And this is probably more relevant as well:  I'm looking at a 34" wide screen--detail gets very small in the distance.

Their pictures and videos are self-serving. We know what these simulators look like outside remote areas. I still use 2020, but when it decides to look bad, it looks awful.

You are now talking about the quality of different locations, rather than a blanket statement that 2020/2024 is blurry.

I can agree with the variable quality, but not that MSFS itself is blurry.

Despite all the flaws and pain FSX gave us, we could at least enjoy looking into the distance.

Sorry to disappoint you. It's not entirely correct. There are many days when it is clear, with no clouds and no haze for hundreds of miles.

Why do you think I would be disappointed? Clear with no clouds and no haze for hundreds of miles? Not often, so if you are worried about things not being sharp in the far distance, don’t, most of the time visibility isn’t that pristine anyway. Another method is to look at the 99% of the view and cockpit that looks great instead of staring and being upset at the small things that aren’t perfect. You won’t be disappointed.

anything beyond 10 miles looks unrealistic and distorted.

LoD Radius, in earlier MSFS 2020 builds you could increase it a little but that soon got "disabled" internally.  The higher LoD tweak did look better but FPS drastically dropped by 300% and memory usage exceed 32GB.

The best way to increase FPS and reduce memory footprint is to reduce the LoD Radius.  This was pointed out early on in MSFS 2020 release that the LoD Radius was worse than P3D and XP11 ... entire city skyline were missing (KSEA and Sydney were a good examples where there were very few buildings being rendered for a major city when sitting at those airports as compared to P3D or XP).

The trick is to fly low and slow or use the age old blind eye and everything becomes less of an issue 😉 ... for a little while anyway ... the land of compromises, some driven by LCD (lowest common denominator) ... aka consoles or low budget PCs where the majority of sales occur.  I think why so many have rated MSFS 2024 so poorly in reviews and user feedback is because many were using a "blind eye" for 4 years in MSFS 2020 to accept issues and had expectations that MSFS 2024 would alleviate those issues, but sadly it didn't really address them.

  • If you fly high, you get repeated cloud patterns.
  • If you fly fast and low, you get melted buildings and blurry scenery.
  • If you fly somewhere in the middle you get unblended trees and obvious LoD Radius resolution differences and where tree lines just abruptly stop.

MSFS 2020/2024 has an altitude and cruise speed sweet spot ... and that is similar to every other platform going back to FSX.

Is this thread about MSFS 2024 only, or both versions of the simulator? I have never noticed any visual issues out to the horizon in MSFS 2020 on my PC, but I am always in full autogen mode with TLOD @ 250.

I see clearly that you don't understand and are unaware.
These small things that are not perfect can be easily fixed for a better immersion. After flying over 44 years of airline experience around the World, regarding visibility, I can share with you that there are geographical places where visibility at lower altitudes is restricted due to various factors and many places where it is not. Sometimes, during climb out, below the deck in an overcast condition, you can see sharp in the far distance for miles and miles ahead, or while on top, even with undercast conditions, you have unlimited visibility of a clear and sharp outside picture.
Yes, things can be improved for a better simulation experience, and those bugs should be acknowledged and eventually resolved.
It is very difficult to understand argumentative people when a discussion is all about fixing a product.
