Some areas have poor textures - of course we all hope the whole world will have great textures.

The point is MSFS itself doesn't need fixing because if the area has good textures, it displays those textures sharp, way off into the distance

But who should fix these ground textures if not Microsoft/Asobo? So yes, this is default MSFS content that needs to be fixed. That's why some people (me included) dare to say that, for some places, FSX+Orbx (Base+Vector+OpenLC) looks more detailed than MSFS because the ground textures are a word-not-allowed mess. Sadly, my city is one of these places 😭

It’s been years since I last played FSX, but my recollection is that it wasn’t too bad.

Your memory is playing tricks with you. Believe me, it was BAD. Just the idea to have that small circle of clouds around you all the time, moving along with you... Even with Active Sky the circle was extremely obvious and immersion killing. In MSFS2020 and 2024 the skies look utterly awesome up to the horizon. No way you could ever get that done in FSX.

If you don't like how 2020 and 2024 look I would advice you to reinstall FSX again. Then let's talk once more about bad looking sims.

In the end it is indeed all very objective... but I myself can NOT do a flight (as I did in MSFS2020 and now in MSFS2024) without thinking at least ONCE how extremely good and realistic the sim looks.

Despite all the flaws and pain FSX gave us, we could at least enjoy looking into the distance.

This really made me laugh out loud. You can't be serious... You HAVE to be kidding. You made one of the funniest posts of the year 2024 just in time! 😉

But well, to each his own.

Easier said than done. MS only have access to Bing maps. In some places this looks awesome. In other places, Google or Apple Maps might look better.

Example: Córdoba, AR. First image is Bing, second one Apple.

I don't think there is anything we can do to alter the OP's opinion. He isn't happy with how NYC looks from 13 miles away. Piet also posted the technical reasons why NYC looks horrid from 13 miles away.

I can live with it; Huascar can't. No current hardware can make NYC look crisp from 13 miles away.

Do I wish NYC looked crisp from 13 miles away? Yes. Is there anything I can do about it currently? Nope.

He feels the way he does. There really isn't a solution other than hoping MS makes it better.

I agree. However, we must remember that everyone has different opinions and preferences. What he's saying is actually an issue largely discussed by many. Dismissing others' findings or engaging in unproductive discussions simply because they don't fit our agenda doesn't justify it. I also have some missing or broken items, making me wonder why people say nothing. Do they not see, don't know, or don't care? Very interesting.

I’m not even sure if we’re discussing PG or autogen buildings here. Maybe both? Maybe neither? This thread is confusing as hell.

You don't get "melted buildings" with PG switched off.

Thanks, Captain! Somehow I thought Google had the best coverage here, but you proved me wrong: I've also added Google Maps to the comparison, but it's awful, more than the default MSFS textures.

I guess I have no choice left but getting an MapEnhancement Pro subscription.

Can we please, please stop this borderline gaslighting of people every single thread once it goes awry. This thread wasn't presented in any mature manner, it wasn't made to have a good faith argument or start an adult conversation. So far, it has been nothing but a shambolic spectacle with OP presenting his opinions and views with the grace of two stubborn freight locomotives deciding to play a game of chicken. It has been weird ad hominem attacks, claims that he forgot he made, it has been goal post moving, it has been bobbing and weaving around facts, it has been trying to establish a narrative as facts despite members disagreeing and posting some great screenshots to disprove it.

Nobody knows what the hell is even the argument at this point, can't get any straight information, get any sort of grounds for comparison, nobody knows to compare against, OP doesn't even know what he said originally. Even goes as far as completely disrespecting people's time and effort, thinking they have to waste hours of their time to disprove a point he can't even verbalize or show off properly. Then we just revert to some vague "Yeah well it's all blurry, that's a fact, Asobo needs to do better. Everyone that disagrees are just haters" mentality.

It's a completely schizophrenic affair of a thread and then some have to absolute gall to start a victim complex, like everyone else are the bad guys, poor OP just stated his opinion and didn't do anything wrong. It's like you've never talked to another human being outside of the internet if you look at this thread and see a real conversation, stating a respectful opinion or starting a good-faith discussion.

Learn how to present an opinion with some respect and humility, with facts and evidence and you'll see that there's no "agenda", there's no big mob of people out to get you. You will see actual adult conversations blossom up and people agreeing with you, instead of putting their guard up and becoming contrarians.

Do better.

I don't know about the rest of you but my simming has never been better.

Maybe it's because I live 120 miles from MS HQ?  Maybe it's because I live in a place with great service providers and great infrastructure. Maybe it's because I live on 10 acres in the mountains right next to an 18 hole golf course.

I don't know...

But I do know that when I fire up my sim and start my preflight, I always have a smile on my face.

For instance, the buildings in downtown Manhattan look blurry as you take off from runaway 31L at JFK,  and as you get closer, the quality gets better. This is what I am suggesting should be improved.

You sound like you think this is an oversight.  Does it ever occur to you MS/A looks at EVERYTHING, then decides where to rob Peter to Pay Paul?....performance and cost budgets are REAL.

Go back and read my original post and show me how I disrespected anyone.  Now, If you’re offended because I highlighted that MSFS looks awful from a distance in big cities with flat terrain, that’s your problem.

It’s not like a criticized your wife’s look! I criticized a $100 simulator. But i understand some people are married to the simulator and take things personally.

Did a flight from KSLC to KSEA this morning, fresh snow over the Cascades. I have not seen any significant texture loading until this flight. It was constantly swapping out textures like it couldn't make its mind up.

Definitely room for improvement 😉

You mean the post straight out of a 12 year old's mind, that had to be removed by a moderator, where you told me to go sleep with the simulator if I loved it so much? Again, you are constantly being massively intellectually disingenuous, gaslighting people and straight up lying. Every single one of your posts are bordering between disillusion and trolling at this point. Your complete lack of social awareness is scary.
