Beyond 10 miles

My comment on this entire issue is this: I have flown countless times in many different aircraft, large and small, at altitudes high and low, in all kinds of weather, over many years, and I have NEVER seen the horizon sharp, EVER. There is this thing called the earth's atmosphere that causes this effect, and any flight simulator that depicts a sharp horizon at distances beyond a few miles is just plain unrealistic.

Thank you for reiterating a common sense ! Seems like topic starter living in his virtual world with binocular implant in his eye LOL

The opening gambit of ' I perceived a problem therefore MSFS is rubbish' is not the best way.

Wait, did I use the term rubbish? I think I said it looked distorted and unrealistic in the distance. Why would this offend or upset anyone? But I can see how a small group of people would be offended by it, because instead of treating flight simulation for what it is, a game, they have turned it into a religion. At least that’s my perception, based on their reaction to my post.  Offended and upset? Give me a break. Babies.

Did the OP mention horizon or:

"anything beyond 10 miles looks unrealistic and distorted" ?

That the most blatant Horizonist post I've ever seen! It is everyone's right to see horizons the way they like. If a he/she/them/it wants to see blurries, he/she/them/it can see blurries. Outrageous! 😧😧😧

If someone is a "licensed paper airplane" pilot, then they probably don't want to see a realistic-looking horizon, as pilots see it, but want to see clearly out to the ends of the earth. Different strokes for different folks.

I can certainly appreciate LOD dropping the farther the distance but 'distortion'? What do you mean by that?  With an ultra wide screen one will most certainly get 'distortion' from image stretch but there is no way around that issue.

The problem has been known since FS2020 and is very present in certain much more visually favorable contexts. On Xbox it's catastrophic. Visible like an elephant in a corridor, grotesque. The worst part is that on FS2024 this setting doesn't even work. Whether you set it to 200 in ultra by default or increase it to 400, there is no difference. But I'm going to try to be optimistic and I think this is one more bug added to the long list. I also understand that many here are only occasional pilots or players between two games of Scrabble for whom the planet Earth represented is enough for them to have fun times with their family. I have attention to detail and am demanding
about the content I purchase. For me, the debate no longer even exists here, it will continue a little higher elsewhere.

You're slightly banking. A shot like that may be unacceptable to the OP 😆

Although I do understand the problem Huascar is addressing, I doubt if it is possible to 'fix' it with current hardware and technology. However, the way MSFS 2020 and 2024 look is the closest to real life I have ever seen.

This is really the crux of the OP's point.  He seems to believe this "problem" is essentially an oversight by Asobo, whereas in reality it's a decision made to deal with massive performance considerations.   Put to Huascar another way:  what big area (that would be 10mi out to the horizon) would YOU like to sacrifice, so you can have better imagery out to the horizon?  No can get something for nothing.  Comments re "distortion' really no sense: you could not distort anything without really trying.

Found it to be hit/miss. Even using the AutoFPS app or not, turning up TLOD in 2024 usually was better but still had a lot of "popping in" of scenery.

Was this in MSFS2020, 2024 or both?

I see it "popping in" of scenery in MSFS2020.

I do not use AuotFPS and did not get MSFS2024 yet.

What I see is bad and I shared a picture earlier in the thread.  Maybe I should have used the term “degraded texture” from a distance, and not blurry. This may be the source of the confusion. As we all know, the texture of building and objects collapse the further you move away.  Mahanttan is a case in point - - from JFK it looks dismal. It gets better as you move closer. I don’t think I have a busted system because I purchased a premium Alienware for MSFS 2020.

"the problem has been there since day one"

Was also confirmed in a previous post by Filou "The problem has been known since FS2020 and is very present in certain much more visually favorable contexts."

So, I may not have to spend $ thousands on a new PC for a later MSFS2024 purchase.

I could upgrade to Nvidia 5090 next month or whenever it comes out, but the hardware will not fix the degraded building textures that one can observe from several miles away.  I used the term blurry because the texture gets so bad it’s almost blurry.
