Windows 11 24 H2 update

Featured Replies

Currently 566.45. Probably my third driver since installing 24H2. No issues with any of them with this update (or anything else)

Have been running Nvidia driver 555.99 (3070 Ti) since July 2024, quite pleased with it (MSFS2020).

Wasn't 566.45 just a hotfix for one game (not MSFS)?

Yes but I play that game too 🙂 No difference in MSFS and FS2024 with respect to the previous driver anyway.

For those suffering from Sound issues, stuttering MSFS 2020 when taxiing or low level flying etc.

I have reinstalled my MS Windows while KEEPING all Apps and Files.

Interesting is, I already was at the latest windows updates!

But reinstalling via the MediaCreation tool and creating USB Stick  (downloadable vie MS), and keeping my files and apps, did a major leap forward to me to eliminate stutters and sound crackling issues in MSFS2020 and MSFS2024 (latter only issued soundcrackling). I also choose in MediaCreationTool to download latest updates as well!

The only thing that MS did reset, was my startup behavior in Windows Tools (set to 1 core instead of all cores, which you can chooce via "Windows tools" - "System Configuration" - "Boot" (TAB) - "Advanced Options" -> Number of processors (choose all you have!) and apply.

For comparing system Builds here is my note:

Version 24H2
Installed on 20250107 (Prior instellement was in Oct 2024)
OS Build 26100.2605
Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26100.36.0
HAGS ON

NvidiaDriver 566.14 was already installed before reinstalling my Windows 11 via Nvidia Website

This is the second time this did the trick for me. I think, often updating windows is causing some issues overtime. The reinstallation cost me only 30 minutes total time (from downloading till ready). I had no further things to do after this. MSFS run without any issues after that.

Just to share....maybe it´s a help for others!

Marcus

Hi Marcus, maybe you found a cure for my woes.  Ever since I let Win Update install 24H2 I've had audio-video cutouts, something never experiences pre 24H2.  So I need to reinstall but retain apps and files.  Ok it's probably time to try this as lord knows I've done every other possible thing to no avail.

Thanks for sharing

I hope so Noel!

I also never had (and not have) the Nvidia Realtek Audio drivers installed! I recall, that for my AMD Board (Aorus 670x) I have an older audio driver downloaded. Someone told me that the recent audio drivers also cause issues. I haven't access to my PC now....but I will look asap which driver version  that is

I recall what I did last year to make sure audio driver is not the cause of sound crackling.

Windows Device manager, search the audio device and then update the driver via "search on this PC for new drivers" and then, important, choose the older version! In my case 2 versions where found and the oldest one I installed.

Currently I really do not know ify new windows install did something with that older driver.....

I need to check!

Oh believe me I've tried every audio driver option and everything else to no avail and plus it's really audio-video not just audio.  I just ran the reinstall and will let you know if it helped!

Cheers

If you get audio stutter, I recall you need to check your Ethernet lan drivers and install the one from your motherboard. Especially they could be issues with the combo by using a VPN tunnel like NordVPN or Surfshark. I uninstatlled NordVPN and installed it again. No issues after that with stuttering or audio. That was an issue with updating Windows to 24h2. So it had nothing to do with audio drivers.

Well, no joy unfortunately still the same issue despite the Win 11 reinstall thru Update.  But at least no harm done ;o)

I'll be curious to see if it persists in MSFS 2024 when I finally install it.  My motherboard related drivers including network adaptors are the latest from MSI.

It's really unfortunate I may be able to do a clone reinstall back but that will entail removing the 4090 so I can get to a m.2 drive hidden by it.  I can use the motherboard's graphic chip though so that works.  It's at least a few months old, the clone but was 23H2 so then will have to upgrade to Win 11 pro from home so I can edit group policy and prevent 24H2 from going back in.

Wish me luck:  definitive test for if 24H2 was indeed the culprit I always assumed it was.  I did clone to a vacant drive and after a bit of this and that to update some things in MSFS since Oct was when I did the clone of 23H2 when everything was normal.  Just now starting my first test flight wish me luck!  If this doesn't fix it I have to start wondering if I have a hardware issue...no!!!!!!
