So MSFS 2024 and MSFS 2020 are getting the new DLSS 4

Anyone know the release date for DLSS4?

  • The only real issue of the 5000 series nVIDIA GPUs is the fact that they are again limited in VRAM. With my 4080, I easily run out of VRAM in MSFS2020 using complex airliners and/or sceneries, in MSFS

  • Honestly, they never existed. Sure, the graphics cards are unreasonably expensive nowadays, but never ever were the top graphics cards as cheap as a computer case. And dont forget what we payed for hi

"This sounds like NVIDIA Surround, which produces major distortion on the side displays."

no, differrent tecchnique. and not when I used it a couple of years ago. the image was evenly spread over the 3 monitors.

I can't handle the distortion that Surround produces on the side monitors

Nvidia Surround turns 2 or 3 monitors into 1 monitor, and then FG works fine on all them at the same time,

FSX did not have this problem. A double wide monitor with a single screen in msfs 2020 also has the same distortion as two single wide monitors joined with Surround. Because the side distortion isn't caused by Surround, it's caused by the sim itself.

What I did was join two identical make and model monitors, side by side, and run msfs 2020 in windowed mode, not full screen. And then I dragged the window to be one and a half monitors wide, not double wide. This reduced the distortion dramatically. And left one half of one monitor for other things, like Lil Nav Map and so forth.

Well, according to a well known Canadian tech YT'er, an RTX 5070 will have similar performance to a 4090.

To be fair, the comparison is ridiculous. The RTX 5070 using the full featureset of DLSS4 achieves the same performance than a RTX 4090 using no features at all, just plain rendering in native resolution. Apples to apples? I guess not 😉

I'm guessing Asobo has just placed FSR3 on the backburner then I suppose? Haven't really heard much about it.

I hope so, as there will soon be the much improved FSR 4, but only for latest RDNA4 a.k.a. AMD 9700XT

if Nvidia's new DLSS 4 makes similar progress over current DLSS, that could be impressive.

friendly reminder: after each MSFS update, always have to update DLSS manually again. while the latest 2024 hotfix 1.2.11.0 was supposed to only address some x-box bugs, it did fix a few, not mentioned in the changelog, for the pc version as well, and en passant, downgraded my currently installed DLL version 3.8.10.0 back to 3.7.20.0

DLSS swapper and a single mouse click et voilà: 3.8.10.0 is back again until DLSS 4.0 😁

Just to confirm, you're saying that the Matrox TripleHead2Go does NOT induce distortion on the side monitors like NV Surround does? Its been about 10 years since I had a TripleHead2GO (those things have been around for decades) but my recollection was they produced exactly the same distortion as Surround in P3D and FSX. I'm sure MSFS is no different.

Here's an in-depth interview with a very knowledgeable bloke from DigitalFoundry:

7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 64GB DDR5

The pure raster gains as @turbomax pointed out from the 4090 to a 5090 are expected to be in the 15-30% range.  So if you get 40 FPS naturally without DLSS with a 4090 you should get ~ 8-10 FPS more with a 5090 using raster gains only.  If you compare a 5070 to a 4090 without DLSS4 the 4090 should still be the better card.

I was reading an article today that said in 4K gaming even the 5090 in raster mode alone couldn't maintain consistent 60 FPS.  So pure HW grunt and tuning is not the future, AI rendering clearly is...

When it comes to pure gaming power, the RTX 5090 flagship GPU still can't quite gaming at 4K on Max graphics presets. On Star Wars: Outlaws, Cyberpunk 2077, Black Myth: Wukong, and Alan Wake 2 the 5090 still can't break that 60 fps (frames per second) gaming threshold for playability. Granted, you can get away with playing these games at 30 fps, but in any game with gunfights, you'll want to opt for higher framerates whenever possible.

That's where DLSS 4 comes in. With the latest iteration of Nvidia's frame generation technology, you'll be able to game in 4K with frame rates over 200 fps. Of course, you're relying on software performance to generate all of those additional frames rather than pure silicon, and not all games offer DLSS 4 support.

if AMD's upcoming FSR4 and Nvidia's DLSS4 really turn out to be as good as the AMD FSR4 preview indicates (right half of the screenshot) then I would see even less need to replace my 4090 with a 5090 (diminishing returns). I am currently running DLSS 3.8.10 in Quality mode in VR, and I am already very happy with it, even with glass panels. the artefacts and shimmering in animated high contrast areas (typically in cockpit glass panels) seem to be completely gone, as demonstrated in the DigitalFoundry video I posted above (time stamp 4:50) and in this screenshot where they compare FSR 3.1 with FSR 4:

I love it when these editors can not even copy the press announcement text correctly.

1) "DLSS 4.0 will only work on the new GeForce RTX 50XX cards."

WRONG . DLSS 4 Super Resolution supported on ALL RTX cards, same that we are using already, just a newer version with better image quality.

2) "DLSS 4.0 Highlights: Multi-Frame Generation"

FrameGeneration is a separate feature, as we have explained earlier, you can run DLSS4 Super Resolution without MultiFrameGeneration. somewhat confusing because NVidia calls all this DLSS.
