Black holes don't suck...

Recommended Posts

Depends on how you define "suck". Outside of a black hole it looks just like any other gravitating body, such as the Earth or the Sun. That means a black hole produces an attractive gravitational field. If you try to stay still, you'll need an engine or it will "suck you in". However, nothing really stays still relative to a star or black hole. And as soon as something moves, it may escape the attraction, just like the Earth doesn't fall into the Sun, and the Moon doesn't fall into the Earth.

The "attractive nuisance" clauses commonly found in liability laws, leave black holes liable to litigation.

I always thought they did, but they don't.  I don't pretend to understand everything in this article but some of you might.

Wow! This is the most clear explanation i've ever read on black holes! This article learned me a thing or two which i never really understood about black holes, and now i'm finally able to really envision it. Which in turn clears the way for an even deeper level of understanding!
If this is the clarity they offer on all subjects i surely check back for other interesting topics that are not totally clear to me.

BIG thanks for this!!

I thought it was actually all due to an increasingly extreme curvature of space.....

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

How do you go about giving notice to a black hole that's getting sued?  The only plausible scenario I can come up with is sending Dog the Bounty Hunter 🤔
