I'm not a fan of Big Pharma, and I'm skeptical of the efficacy of many drugs and concerned about their side effects, but I don't worry too much about drugs like Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen which have been around for many years and are proven to reduce pain and inflammation.  Just be careful not to take too much for too long.  I had a doctor tell me that she has patients who take Ibuprofen every single day for their pain - that can't be good for you.

My doctor told me to stop taking ibuprofen because of the potential kidney problems and to take Extra Strength

And now you know.

Let's give the doctors the benefit of the doubt and believe they want to balance drug damage between kidney and liver depending on your personal situation.

Or you could mention taking aspirin or Aleve and watching their reaction.

Aleve is the most powerful anti-inflammatory sold over the counter. It works. I don't take it for pain, only for inflammation. Yet my rheumatologist told me it had no anti-inflammatory properties when it's clearly marked as an nsaid. I didn't argue but that was the last time I went to him.

I'd been taking prescription level naproxyn for years and my pharmacist and I often discussed when it would go generic. When Aleve appeared on the shelves of the pharmacy, the pharmacist told me, and I quote, "It's the worst stuff you can take." These were the exact words my rheumatologist used years later.

I decided it was a case of marketing over medicine and don't worry about it. But I try to take as little as possible, just in case, and I feel out all my doctors about taking Aleve. Some care, some don't.

I generally avoid Tylenol after watching how it replaced aspirin, and having a friend in pre-med at the time who often ranted about it and it's effect on the liver.

My kidneys are in much worse shape than my liver so I try to avoid ibuprofen as well. Aleve hits the kidneys too so I limit it as much as I can.

If any of you guys have watched the idiotic TV commercials for prescription drugs, I love it when they tell
you about all of the side effects!  Most of them end with "causes suicidal thoughts and death"!  ☠️

I can't remember the last time I took a Tylenol.

My Primary Care doctor told me to avoid Tylenol and acetaminophen entirely, and prescribed Etodolac for inflammation and Methocarbamol for muscle pain. I take Lisinopril to help protect my kidneys from the effects of diabetes.

What I read is that the UK govt. healthcare system NHS will no longer pay for it.  That's different than it being banned so that no one can buy it.  It would be absurd to ban something like Acetaminophen.

Tylenol has its uses.  It is an effective analgesic that doesn't cause gastrointestinal distress like Ibuprofen and Naproxen - I can't take those because it will give me stomach cramps and acid reflux.  Celebrex(Celecoxib) is a great substitute for Ibuprofen as it doesn't cause the stomach problems, but you still need a prescription for it.

There will always be people who abuse medications.  Just look at the opioid abuse in the USA which is off the charts, although that is being dealt with.  It is ashamed that because of a few people who have no self control and abuse drugs, the rest of us have to suffer.  Almost no doctor in the USA will prescribe even small amounts of a weak opioid like Vicodin as they are afraid of legal consequences, when in many cases this particular painkiller would be entirely justified for a short period.

Etodolac is much like Celecoxib and works wonders for pain and inflammation.  Your doctor is right that Tylenol doesn't work for inflammation.

This is one of my grim pleasures...I like the "trouble breathing...call your doctor" or "Confusion...call your doctor".

Obvious weasel-words the legal department insisted be part of the small print.

I love this one: Be sure to tell your doctor if you are taking ___________. I would really hope that my doctor already knows this.😁 The other one: Don't take ------------ if you are allergic to said drug.
