Amazon just cancelled my order of 5070Ti for $1,400 that I placed yesterday. 

Stay away from GPU's with less than 20 GB Vram if you use 4K, you will thank me later.

my Pimax Crystal Light VR headset: 16.6 megapixel

Newegg has both 7900XTX/24GB and 5070Ti/16GB at the same price now. If my CPU is 9800X3D and I have no plans to go with 4k (I fly heavy metal only, complex hubs, AS, a lot of AI traffic via AIG/PSXT), what card would you recommend?

No. 4k works perfectly with TAA and Losless Scaling on my 7900xt.

For 2D only, I would choose the 9070XT over the 5080 and save $550.   I play 100% in VR, though and have always heard AMD GPU's have issues in VR.  16GB VRAM is an unfortunate limitation on both cards, but of course spending over $2K on a 4090/5090 is also pretty ridiculous for some of us.

they don't list VRAM used by MSFS but total VRAM in use (incl. Windows desktop, Internet explorer, and what have you), that's why I only use the MSFS DEV mode built-in VRAM performance display to check exactly what MSFS itself is using.

My experience with a 5800X3d, 4K monitor, 64gb ram, and a 4080 Super is consistent with SetSpeed. By reducing texture resolution to High, disabling ray traced shadows, capping FPS at 40 on my 60 Hz monitor, and using AutoFPS (TLOD range 75 - 300), I am able to run 2024 nicely with 16 GB VRAM. And this is with complex scenery at takeoff (DD KDCA and Washington landmarks) and landing (FeelThere KLGA and Samscene New York City Times). In MSFS, Buildings, Plants, Rocks, and Grass = High, Trees = Medium. All looks very nice at 4K, and runs very smooth.

Forgot to mention, the above is with the Fenix A320 

I would like an RTX5080 or even possibly an RTX4080 but the problem is not which is the best or what I can afford, rather that neither of these cards seem to be available anywhere, so I will have to soldier on with my RTX3080 for the time being.

I would expect what counts is how much total VRAM is needed to run the sim. While the sim itself may 'only' use 11GB, it would seem the VRAM requirements of all other programs that HAVE to be running at the same time (e.g. Windows) do need to be taken into account. 
As an aside, I saw above a couple of references to 2D monitors -- are there simmers that are actually using 3D monitors? For VR maybe?

By "2D monitor" they mean traditional monitor.

Thanks, I understand that. Since it was pointed out above that a 2D monitor was being used, I'm curious if that was mentioned because some are using a non-standard monitor like a 3D monitor?
