Are things looking up weather radar wise?

Asobo has no idea what a weather radar is or how it works, so no, things are not looking up.

The radar reflect water droplets and portrays the intensity of those droplets like a real radar weather would.

What we can’t do is create our own radars from data feeds, but your claims really don’t agree with reality.

I have kind of moved over from P3D like maybe a year ago, to slowly discover the sad state of MSFS. Now before everyone jumps on me saying how wrong I am, let me explain. The sim is unfortunately

The weather in Xplane 12 latest beta...including clouds and proper depiction of haze and visibility globally is now stunning in Xplane 12. No silly rings of haze around airfields...just proper realist

Are you referring to 2020?  If not I don't agree with you at all.  2024 weather is vastly improved.  Look at these three screen grabs of me approaching a heavy shower over London UK with live weather

I was referring to 2020. I am not on 2024 so I can’t comment on that. But it does look nice 😊

This was in the Aerosoft CRJ V2 in 2020 taken a couple of weeks ago while flying through an intense line of storms near Louisville. The only problem was that I could fly directly through a big cell with no bad effect, but that is due to the lack of realistic turbulence emulation in 2020 rather than a problem with the radar emulation.

Hi Jim,

Was this using live weather? I havent been able to get any returns on the CRJ (I'm CL65 TR). I've ready somewhere that the radar only works with weather presets, was it the case in your screenshot?

Thx!

WXR definitely works with live weather.

That was Live Weather. The storms were occurring in that same location in r/w at the time.

777 Radar works in 2020 and in the preview vids also looked like it was working in '24...

There was a time when I thought for sure that Working Title would beat everyone to the finish line of a working weather radar. (Not that I would know for a while how to even work one if they did)

A weather radar in MSFS is mostly useless given the current state of their weather system.  I never see towering thunderstorms at the higher flight levels, passing through “red” areas is barely noticeable, and I never worry about hail or wind shear if they are even modeled.  I’d rather Asobo focus on this first, or even better, turn the weather over to another developer who knows what they’re doing.

Hail isn't modelled, but sharp winds are.

just curious, why no windshear alert from the plane?

I've had a few in the 777 and I did get the aural windshear callout from the plane.

Shouldn't there have been an audible warning?
