I am really warming up to MSFS 2024...

Microsoft has always been like this (see windows, teams, skype, etc) - They implement whatever they want and YOU deal with it without any options.

Tell me about it! I've still got all my old (physical) Windows Resource Kit manuals, going back to W3.1. Back in those days you could get some real solid info if you dug round a bit. Nowadays even the so-called tech support is just basically a forum of non-staff users.

But then again, I don't feel sufficiently nerdy any more to want to switch to Linux.

Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case. Sims in use - 2020, 2024, XP-12 and -11, FSX/SE, P3Dv4.5 and v5.4. DCS and AFS2 installed but rarely used

No. It's on each user's requirements. You like it? Lucky you, enjoy it and don't even worry about me, i have alternatives.

It was interesting for a couple of days, then I decided to uninstall it. 😀

Congrats, you are a certified Flight Simmer.

Re: needing more documentation for default aircraft, did you mean above and beyond what's in https://www.flightsimulator.com/aircraft-manuals/ ?

Are you talking about the MSFS platform in general here, both 2020 and 2024, or 2024 only? Either way this comment doesn't make sense to me.. 2024 is a superset of 2020, yes with more bugs, but features/capabilities wise it is effectively a superset. Secondly, the presence of certain features (i.e. careers/missions) does not take away from all the core simulation features 2024 has obviously. MSFS is a sim platform geared towards a wide swath of users and interests, including of course core/serious simmers. There's a reason why 77% of a 23,000 pool of Navigraph users, "serious" simmers who tend to fly mostly airliners, chose MSFS as their primary platform. Unlike the previous generation of sims, features and capabilities don't need to come at the expense of each other.. Visual fidelity, core aircraft and flight/systems/avionics fidelity, free flight, careers/missions, aircraft types from GA to airliners to helis to gliders, etc etc can *all* be had in one sim platform. One can then use the sim platform as they wish, very serious and simulating of real world ops, to very gamey and casual, and everything inbetween.

Thanks for the link to the manuals. I will check that section out.

I would have no idea. Uninstalled it once and patiently waiting for them to make it usable:

 - Download everything downloadable to my SSDs, i don't care if it uses 2TB or 3TB. Local, please, cloud doesn't work for me for this type of thing;

- Ability to remove unwanted aircraft and liiveries like i am able to on MSFS (AKA declutter);

- Ability to select an aircraft without dwelling into a cave with multiple paths never knowing where the model i want to fly is (just make it like MSFS is!);

- Ability to start straight from the cockpit without all the XBOX-Game things like removing chocks and engine covers. What a sad idea;

The rest of the nonsense i can deal with but these above are show stoppers for me and i guess they will never be fixed because there's zero interest (and money to be made) from it.

It was a joke OFC 😉

I honestly do not plan to UNINSTALL MSFS until the next version get's released or, in a worst case scenario, MS drops it like they did to MS FLIGHT, but, for the time being I really don't believe that will happen...

I am having the greatest time in my simmer life with my 3 sims, and DCS World and IL-2 aren't installed just because I have to buy a bigger disk, because otherwise, together with MSFS 2024, Xp12 and Condor3, they would fill my "F:" partition 🙂

I also agree with your complains, although not being such an hardcore flight simulation and developer as you are Nuno, I am ok with most everything MSFS 2024 offers.

My biggest complains are related to the way some aspects of weather are implemented, but with Active Sky and Real Turb, I can overcome most of it 😉

It is SHIFT-C indeed, but why on earth can't i decide where i want to start my flight (and without the engine covers on for God's sake, i always forget to take them out)?

That is a strange feature and the day after I installed 24 installed Walkaround Manager, for $4.99, which solves this issue.

thats nothing have a look at the xplane 12 forumn.

I'm happy to see XP12 marching along, truly.  If I was shopping for a truly better experience I would def have another look at XP12, but I'm not because I have everything I could possibly want right now in 2020 with no need to install additional scenery to try to match what I already have, and have zero problems in 2024 save not having a few fav airliners I use frequently.  I just installed ChasePlane into 2020 and it's just fabulous!  Looking forward to when it arrives for 2024.  It was so cool to land the other day and hit the trigger on my yoke to see the landing--first time!  I've said bye bye to GSX now and really am enjoying stutter-free efficient Self Loading Cargo to handle pushback and everything else with flight crew management and love its deep scoring component.  Works great in both sims as does BATC & FSLTL as well which is fabulous.  So no, nothing lacking now in the MSFS domain.  Def prefer 2024's visual experience to 2020.

Rob is here only for one reason:  to continue to spew anti MSFS tripe and try to encourage others to join him in XP as he apparently needs the affirmation he's doing the right thing, or gets extra feathers in his cap for stealing a few others ready to sell out because of 24's slow start.

Are you asserting that making a flight far closer to IRL processes is somehow gamifying it....?

I understand that in many ways MSFS is geared towards gamers, but I think we are being shortchanged here. Did I mention that you can buy Falcon 4 off Steam for $5 and download Falcon BMS for free? Go check it out and tell me something isn't wrong with this picture.

No, you clearly don't understand.

Falcon 4 is a dead game from an even deader company.

And it died about 25 years ago.

It's further complicated by IP rights and ownership transfers, etc. Too long to get into here.

This is similar, to a limited degree, why you could buy FSX for $20 even before MSFS was released.

Further, during its death throes, one of the employees released the source code to the public.

Which is how BMS came into possession, and then decided to improve the game over the last 20 years.

There's simply no legitimate way to compare charity to a business while implying the business is cheating it's customers.

Similar goes for the rest of your post. So shallow and ill considered it's not worth any further words.

When you do, just start the aircraft on a runway.. that will work much better for you 😉

And BTW, that is what I do all the time as well..

I can't Bert, i like to configure everything from zero. I take around 20min to bring an airliner to taxi, and i really enjoy that.

Yeah last time i flew with one of my friends he did remove the engine covers from the CFM engine on that A320. Very realistic.

Oh and when he jumped 2 meters in the air to remove the pitot covers from the same 320? Awesome.

I'm sorry but i just don't understand some marketing decisions. If they want to turn this into a festival, go ahead, but give me that "disable festival" switch thank you.
